Someone introduced me to a very similar if not, exact salad at a party and it was surprisingly tasty! That's why I just came online and looked it up! :) Great idea.

The salad is best if you toast the noodles and nuts for a few minutes in the oven.

RE: Ramen Noodle Oriental Salad

Hi Denise, Shred a head of cabbage, break up a package of ramen noodles and add sliced almonds. Toss. Use any salad dressing. Enjoy! This is always a hit when I serve it. (01/19/2006)

Oriental Cole Slaw

This is the recipe that I use and it is really good.
  • 1 med head cabbage, shredded
  • 8-10 green onions, chopped
  • 1 med red pepper, chopped
Mix all the above and refrigerate
  • 2 packs ramen noodle soup, (oriental flavor), raw, remove flavor packs
  • 1/2 cup sesame seeds, toasted
  • 3/4 cup slivered almonds, toasted
Smash noodles, mix together with seeds and almonds, set aside in covered bowl

Dressing

  • 1/2 cup light olive oil
  • 1/2 cup dark sesame seed oil
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup rice wine vinegar
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. pepper
  • 2 packs of ramen soup flavoring
Mix all together in a jar and let set overnight (shake often to dissolve sugar)

Mix all ingredients together just before serving.

This makes a lot. You can half recipe or use leftover the next day as stir fry with shrimp or whatever meat you want added. (01/19/2006)

RE: Ramen Noodle Oriental Salad

This is a big hit anywhere I make it--very easy, too:

Combine in a small bowl and let sit for 2 hours:

  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1/3 c. white vinegar
  • 2/3 c. salad oil
  • 1 seasoning packet from Oriental ramen noodles
Combine these dry ingredients in a large bowl:
  • 1 package broccoli slaw (sometime this is hard to find so an easy substitue is cole slaw & it tastes just the same!)
  • 1 bunch green onions
  • 2 pkg Oriental ramen noodles, crushed up
  • 15 oz can mandarin oranges, drained
  • 1 cup slivered almonds, roasted
After a few hours combine the dressing and dry ingredients. Enjoy! (01/20/2006)
