Sadie Rose with Santa (Yellow Labrador Retriever)

This is Sadie. She is my 5 month old yellow labrador retriever. I got her from a friend on Sept. 1st. She loves to SWIM and chase squirrels.

This is her 1st Christmas and she was so excited to see Santa. She is the newest member to our family. And if you want a pet, that is how they should be treated, just like a family member. Besides my children she is my best friend. I take her to work everyday. I never leave home without her.

My boys don't do Santa anymore so I'm glad I have a baby girl to share Santa with. Merry Christmas!

A Quick Remodel for the Bedroom

It is a snap to do a small remodel to just make a change from what you are tired of looking at. For this fast inexpensive remodel I simply added colored mini blinds and chenille pillows to add color and jazz it up. Since it is the bedroom, I used calming colors that tied in with the blue in the blinds and the colors of the comforter and valances are brought out in the pillows.

Goldfish Bowl Jello

This is a huge hit! It looks so cool when completed! It's a bit of work, but definitely worth it. :-)

Requires:

  • 1 goldfish bowl
  • Purple endive or fennel, leaves (and other edible things that will look good as foliage in a tank!)
  • gummy fish
  • 1 package jelly beans (or fruit cocktail)
  • uncooked spaghetti (for placing items in jello)
  • blue jello
  • knox jello (clear)

Directions:

Mix gelatin according to package directions. Use clear jello to dilute.

Place the jelly beans in the bowl.

When gelatin is cool, BUT NOT SET, pour it slowly into the Fish bowl. Be careful not to move the candies around, because the coloring may run.

Allow to cool for just a little while (you don't want stiff gelatin when trying to place fish and foliage in bowl).

When gelatin is just starting to set (ie: it's not watery... set just enough to hold something in place) add your "foliage" and fishies, placing them where you want them with strands of spaghetti (helpful when moving things around so your gelatin isn't destroyed he he).

Refrigerate your fish bowl until you wish to serve it.

Breaking the Code for Presents

Holiday Tradition: To keep the children out of the presents under the tree, my mother would make up a code for each person. She would put the code on the package instead of the name on the tag. Right after Thanksgiving we would be given the code. The first person to break the code would be allowed to open their presents first on Christmas Day. We had so much fun trying to break the code that we were never under the tree shaking presents.

Keeping Futon from Slipping

To keep my futon mattress from slipping and sliding, I took 2 rolls of gripping shelf liner and laid one under the seat part, and one behind the back part. Now the mattress stays in place!

Car Buying Tip 10 - Have Fun

Have fun. Why? Why not! There is NO reason you have to suffer through buying a car. If you are informed, strong, and calm, you will do fine, save money, and feel great buying your next car!

Car Buying Tip 9 - Be Prepared to Walk Out

If you get confused or upset, do NOT make a deal. Why? You need to be thinking clearly and calmly when you are spending tens of thousands of dollars on a car. Have a list of dealerships you can buy from, and don't be afraid to walk out if you really think there is no fair deal to be made at any particular dealership.

Refurbishing Candles

Candles, candles, candles! I use candles for ambiance every holiday. I recycle my old candles by cutting the worn out crooked tops with a hot knife that I held over the stove. The hot knife slides easily into the candle allowing me to cut a smooth edge on the top of the candle. I finish by tying a ribbon around the candle either around the top, bottom, or middle depending on the size of the candle.

Wedding Gift Idea - Invitation and Pictures

Wedding invitations are so beautiful. I wanted to keep one for me when I got married. I cut lace and ribbons and glued it to the edges of the invitation and framed it. I have done the same for my husband's friend. For theirs I used a double frame and putting the couples picture on the other side. Later after they got back from their honeymoon we went to visit them. They said my gift was the best gift they recieved. I looked on the mantel and there it was.

A New Ornament Each Year

Every year since they were little I have given my girls a new Christmas ornament. We also have friends who have exchanged Christmas ornaments with the girls for years. This will be great as when they leave home they will have their own set of ornaments with memories for their own Christmas trees. Plus it makes for a reasonably priced gift to exchange with friends each year.

Making Your Own Gift Card Holders

Giving gift cards or cash for Christmas? Have you seen the prices of gift card holders? Here's an inexpensive way to present them for Christmas. Using felt sheets, double over and lay a gift card on it as a guide. You can get two stockings out of one 8x11 sheet of felt. Cut out a stocking shape allowing for small seams on sides. Use decorative scissors on raw edges. Sew or glue all edges except the top of stocking. Decorate these with beads, buttons, cinnamon sticks, small wrapped candies, etc (again let you imagination go wild). Insert gift card or money inside and these can be hung from the tree by adding a string for hanging or they tuck nicely into a card. Just a little added touch to your gift.

Matching the Color of My Leather Couch

I have a leather eggshell cream coloured lounge and stupidly during cleaning pen marks off it one day removed the colour or paint (whatever it is). I would like to know if there is something I can do to colour it again. It's only a small spot and I have considered just spray painting it. Any ideas to help me would be greatly appreciated.
