Flag Lapel Pin (Safety Pin Jewelry)

Safety Pin Jewelry - Flag Lapel Pin 7

List of Supplies:

  • Safety Pins:
    • 1 gold pin size #1 (measures 1 inch)
    • 10 gold pins size #00
  • Beads: Glass beads in red, white, and blue - Size 10MM

Directions

You will need a needle nose pliers and something to spread the loop end of your large safety pin. I find that a metal fingernail file works well for this, or perhaps a small letter holder.

Prepare the small pins with the appropriate color glass beads. Each pin holds 7 beads.

(Note: Beads may vary slightly in size, so you may have to change a bead or two so they will fit.)

Six of the pins will have red and white alternately. The remaining four will start with 3 blue followed by four white and red alternately.

Arrange as in photo 4 and assemble your pin using the photos as your guide. Wear with pride!

Using the photos as a guide, spread the loop on the large gold pin and set aside.

Sparky

Sparky

Sparky was born July 31, 2006. He is a Miniature American Eskimo dog. We got our puppy from an ad in a paper, and brought him home Oct. 1st.

Our little guy is very active, runs, jumps, chews and tastes everything in site. Good at digging too!

He loves to sleep with his big Teddy bear during the day. We put him in his crate for night. He usually puts himself to bed at night & sleep through.

Bat Cup Cakes
By Stella Rivet

Bat Cup Cakes These Bat Cup Cakes are super easy and quick if you use Hostess Cupcakes like I did. You also could make similar bats by making your own cupcakes and they probably would cost less and taste better. Time commitment: About 10 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 Hostess Cupcake
  • 1 Fruit Roll-up
  • 1 white mystery Airhead (you can use one of these to make teeth for many Bats)
  • 2 Creme Savers
  • Candy covered chocolates (M&M's) or mint flavored colored chocolate chips
  • Frosting (to glue the pieces together)

Directions

Place a little bit of frosting on the bottom of the creme savers and place them above the squiggly line on the cupcake. Then frost the bottom of the M&M's or colored chocolate chip and place it on top of the creme saver for the pupils of the eye. Then place one more M&M or colored chocolate chip for a nose. Cut the air head to be shaped like vampire teeth. Use frosting to glue the airhead teeth in place bellow the squiggly line on the cupcake. Cut the fruit roll-up diagonally and cut the scalloped ends on the short end of the roll-up. Place the roll-up wings down first them place the cupcake on top.

My Frugal Life - A Week Of Frugal Summer Fun

Summer Time:

Monday: The public library has a program to encourage reading. They have story time and a craft to go along with it. We would then pick out the books for the week.

Tuesday: Free swimming lessons at the city park program from 11:30-12:00, then we'd play in the park (swings, slide, sandbox etc.) Have lunch at the picnic table, then we'd go to the wooded section of the park and go berry picking.

Wednesday: Our local cinema (3 miles up the road). Once a week they would have a book report kid's day, where you bring in a book report and you can see the kids movie of the week for free. Seeing that the grocery store was just another 1/4 mile up the road, we'd hit it first, and get two 25 cent soda machine sodas, 2 small bags of chips for 50 cents, and 1 large sub for about $2.00. So for about $3.00, we'd have lunch outside the store at picnic table. We'd then back track to the cinema and see the movie.

Thursday: Again, swimming, and on this day the bookmobile would come to the park. We'd get to return books from the library and choose new ones. Now we have a couple of books to read before we leave.

Friday: Today would be the day that we'd either bake from our findings on Tuesday or make a board game or play a game we've already made. We might plant a flower or anything else.

We always either walked or rode the city bus. The week never cost more than $7.50.

Halloween Rice Krispie Treats

Rice krispie treats can be made in holiday colors - add a bit of orange food coloring to the marshmallow mixture for Halloween. A few candy corns or a few Halloween M and M's on top is a nice touch.

Bargain Bins at Radio Shack and Office Stores

My husband haunts the bargain bins at Radio Shack and Staples/Office Depot, and finds lots of good deals. He just got a bargain music program to record at home for $40 which seems to be the equivalent of a much pricier program. (One component sold separately on the shelf was $100!) He's having a LOT of fun with it.

Discount Area at Ikea

Do you know that Ikea has a discount area? (In the one near us, it's right near the cash registers.) You can get little items - like CD cases - which make good gifts - but we got some shelving and a beautiful wool rug! (It was dark blue and they thought it was dirty, but it just needed to be vacuumed.)

Stretching Frosting

I wouldn't have believed this but it works! If you whip store bought frosting, with a mixer, it will double in size. It is light, easy to work with and frosts double the amount of cake or cupcakes.

Also, if you microwave that store bought frosting, it will become liquid. You can then use it warm to dip pretzels, cake cubes, marshmallows or whatever. The the frosting will harden and make a "shell". Fun to try.

Baked Potato Night

Recently I was looking for some different thrifty ideas for dinner meals, this one my family loves including my husband who is a big eater, "Baked Potato Night". I purchase some baking potatoes on sale, if they are big I plan on one per person the average amount spent is $1.50 to $2.00. I cook some broccoli which was on sale, shred some cheese, left over chicken (what ever sounds good), some times a salad with it. The average price for the whole meal is $4.00-4.50. It is very filling and relatively healthy (fiber, vegetables, protein.) Enjoy!

Recipes Using Sago

Does anyone have any easy recipes for using sago? My boyfriend bought some he made it with milk on the stove and it turned out hard after 30 minutes. It turned us off for a bit but I would like to try it if I had a recipe to go by.

Struggling Peace Plant

This question regards a houseplant. It is a peace plant that I have had for about seven months. It was repotted after several months. It looked healthy and beautiful for a long time, but somewhere along the line, I started over-watering it. Now, it is on its last legs. I removed all the old, dead growth underneath, replaced the top layer of soil with fresh potting soil in hopes that it would absorb some of the excess moisture, and punched holes in the soil to aerate it.

Is there any hope of reviving it?

Harvest Festival Ideas

I'm planning a Fall Harvest Festival for my church (as an alternative to Halloween). HOWEVER, it will be at a nearby park and be OUTSIDE (after dark). Most of the ideas I have found so far involve indoor fun. Another challenge is that I have ALL ages - not just little ones. So I need games and contests and activities that would interest teens and adults.

Keeping My Rolling Backpack Dry

I take a rolling backpack when I go to school (it's a backpack on wheels that looks like the rolling luggage you see in airports). It's raining cats and dogs out there and I am wondering what I can rig up to keep the backpack dry. The heavy text was over $100, the calculator ditto and I want neither to even become damp.

Although I have another backpack on wheels that's a cheapie and wouldn't mind if it becomes wet, I need to keep the contents safe from rain and puddles, many of which I'll be wheeling through. Any suggestions?

I am currently thinking a giant ziploc bag in the interior, but when I put the book back in, I just know that there will be water in it (it's raining that hard). I just wish it would rain over the lake where we get our water supply. The darn thing is something like ten feet down and lowering.

Thanks,
Holly from Richardson, TX
