Getting Rid of Couch Grass

I live in south western Spain and most of the lawns here are couch grass because it stands up to the drought conditions of this part of Spain. (Similar to your zone 9b). When it creeps on to the paths and terraces, the only way is to do the hands and knees bit and physically pull it up!!!
