Craft Project: Heart Posies

Heart Posies

Heart Posies

Need a last minute valentine craft? My year old granddaughter and I made 25 of these for her class in about 90 minutes. We call them Heart Posies.

Approximate Time: 5 minutes or less, depending on age

Supplies:

  • Red Construction paper (1 full page makes 12-16 hearts)
  • Suckers (dumdums, tootsie pops, etc)
  • scotch tape
  • masking tape or white floral tape
  • scissors
  • optional small white doilies

Instructions:

  • Step 1: Take 1 full sheet red construction paper and fold it in half and half again. You have 4 folded strips, cut them. Now fold in 3 or 4, depending on the size of the sucker.

  • Step 2: Take 4 of the pieces, stack fold together in half. Do a quick heart cutout of 4 at the same time. Do a little blunt cut at the bottom (instead of pointed heart).

While folded, do a little snip triangle at the fold so when open you have a hole for the sucker stick at the bottom.

  • Step 3: Put sucker through the little hole of all 4 pieces, and spread them around, 4 leaf clover style.

Optional: Next is to poke sucker through doily.

  • Step 4: Have a piece of masking tape or floral white tape handy. Pull all petals up in hand and hold like a real flower with the sucker in the center. Quickly, wrap the tape under petals to hold it. Then apply scotch tape at an angle on the stick to go up and down. This will keep the tape tight. You may find shortcuts in doing this that work as good.

Optional Holiday: Do it for St Patrick's Day with cut out 4 leaf clover, Easter with eggs, etc
