How Do I Remove Kerosene Soot from Walls and Ceiling

I have a kerosene heater. When I woke up, I had black all over my walls, ceiling, and rugs. What do I do to get it out of my house and do I have to stay out my house for a certain amount of time?

I am not sure about the rugs but TSP and some elbow grease works really well.
