Does anyone know where I can find live Kefir? Or can I make some with plain store bought Kefir? Any recipes would be appreciated.

Homemade Kefir
Recipe #234153

Ingredients
# 1 tablespoon kefir, grains(looks like little pieces of cauliflower)
# 1 quart whole milk
Directions

Put kefir in glass jar and fill almost full with the whole milk (organic, non-pasteurized is preferable).

Cover with a clean cloth and place on the counter.

Wait 1 to 2 days, stirring periodically with a PLASTIC spoon (not metal).

When thick, strain out the kefir grains with a plastic strainer. Don't smash the grains.

Place grains in a clean jar and repeat.

NOTE: If you run out of milk or will be out of town, place grains in a glass jar and cover with water. Put a lid on jar and keep in fridge until ready to use again.

Call your local Whole Foods Market or well stocked health food store and ask if they carry it.

You can find live kefir on eBay. I purchased a small amount of kefir from a seller and made some cultured milk from it and really did not like the taste.

You can also purchase the kefir drinks in the health food section of your grocery store.
