I have a long haired Shepherd, he is scratching at same spot been 5 days now. What can I do for him to stop that itch for him? Any advice about this before I go to the vet?

PERHAPS the furry friend of yours just has dry sking under all of the fur...wash him and use cream rinse on him to help with the itchy dry skin.

There are hot spot sprays at your local animal or grocery store unless you are out in the country. Teatree oil ( an essential oil)and grape seed oil work for our dog. He ahs chronic allergies and also get flea dermatitis. We had to change him over to a meat vegees and brown rice diet for a while and our vet recommended this. We add garlic and brewers yeast to it also.

I've had really good luck with tea tree oil shampoo which you can get at health food stores. Tea tree oil itself is too strong and can burn and irritate, but the shampoo or soap is really great for all kinds of skin irritations.

Sounds like a hotspot. Check out http://www.canismajor.com/dog/hotspots.html for info on what you can do.
