I would love some advice. We're planning to travel to Florence, Italy in September. We've been reading as much as we can, but would love to hear from those of you who have visited. Can you advise us as to what areas you would visit again, and what sights you thought were a waste of time? We're going to be visiting for only 5 days.

Hi Maggie, My daughter suggested a day trip to Sienna by train to see the countryside filled with vineyards and fields of sunflowers. Also to visit the Ponte Vecchel(only bridge to survive the bombing of WWll),Santa Croce(Italian version of Westminster Abby), Piazzio Michelangelo(s of the river), Grotto's Bell Tower and the Duomo(gives a beautiful view of the city). She also suggested going on line to selectItaly.com to preorder tickets for any museums you want to visit or you have 1-2 hr waits to purchase and may not even get them. Also take an Italian phrase book as alot of the menus are in Italian and alot of the people do not speak english. She said she felt very safe there at night and that the streets were very well lit. She said to avoid "the mall" unless you can afford a $450 purse. It also cost 25-30 euros per person for the shuttle out there.
Hope this helps and have a great trip!

Hi Maggie,
I will get in touch with my daughter as she was just there last week for a vacation. She said it was wonderful. I will get some tips from her and send them ASAP. It might be a couple of days as she is gone this weekend too.

be sure to budget one afternoon/dinner to take train to Pisa - see the tower and have dinner, or something...there isn't/wasn't much else to do there, when we were there
