The following is a simple list to follow when dealing with a home renovation:

1. Establish a good working rapport with your Contractor.

2. Enusre to always have open lines of communication with your contractor.

3. Understand the workings of your budget.

4. Try to quantify your extras before your contractor lets the subcontracts.

5. Clear all of your valuables and belongings from the area of work to avoid unnecessary accidents.

6. Do not criticize unfinished work.

7. Understand your payment requirements and be ready for them so that commitments can be kept with trades and suppliers.

8. Clear all routes of access and egress for ease and safety as it will save time and money for you.

9. Make all design choices that affect the critical path as soon as possible in order to avoid delays and expedite the work.

10. Discuss the ongoing work and make all decisions only with your contractor to avoid miscommunications and confusion on the site.
