My best friend, Muffin, was 16 (in human years) when I had to put her down. She had been hit by a car about a year before, I think if it had not been for that she would have lived quite a few more years.

they say that life expectantcy shitzu is 15-18 years, but is that in dog years or human years?

I have a Lhaso Apso and the vet said life expectancy for her was 12-15 years. I imagine it's about the same since the breed is so similiar.

The life span of a shih tzu is 15 years on average. Source: my vet. Mine will be 11 in April.
