Is Charcoal Acidic?

Are charcoal and wood ashes acidic?

Wood ash is not acidic. It is the opposite. It is a base, or alkali, like caustic soda, lye, ammonia, baking soda. That is why pioneers used them to make soap.

Wood ash is acidic, but not sure about the charcoal. We use the wood ash in garden spot and around acid loving plants.
