Misty (Maltese)

Misty was just a puppy in this picture. She is now 11 years old and we love her very much. Sadly she has gone blind and just likes to sleep most of the days now. She goes for short walks but it is not the same fun any more for her.

Scrapbooking On A Budget

I have TONS of pictures in photo albums but I recently met up with a new challenge--SCRAPBOOKING! While shopping this weekend I found a scrapbook at a tent sale for $2.00! It has 100 or more pages, is Leather but has one drawback, it says Disneyland on the front. Oh well, who'll notice?

The price is motivation enough to get me started. The supplies I used were scrapbooking paper and decorative gift wrapping paper, craft foam, paper glue sticks, tape, scissors and scissors which cut a decorative edge, all my old cards and photos.

With a lot of cutting and pasting I have come up with my first HOLIDAY page. I'm really excited about getting started and wanted to pass this along so that others might be inspired to do the same. This brings back that old childhood desire to cut and paste. Only now at my age my family will think I've reverted back to my childhood. At least I'll have something to do when they put me in the NURSING HOME!

Sneaky Snake (Made With Men's Ties)
By Teri Clark

If you have an adult male in your home, you are bound to have a huge array of ties. And if it is anything like at my house, I'll bet that many of those ties go unworn year after year! Don't let those old ties go to waste - instead, create a quick, easy, and adorable snake for your child's stuffed animal collection!

Princess PJ - Tuxedo Cat

This is a photo of our tuxedo cat "Princess PJ". We brought her back from Wichita, KA to Lake Village, AR a little over two years ago to be a mate for our tuxedo tom cat Napster. The have virtually identical markings. For fun, she pushes her pieces of dry cat food around until she gets bored and then she eats them.

Weeding Tips

Tips and ideas for pulling up weeds. Post your ideas.

Keeping the Weeds Down

Weed a little every day.

By Drury

Editor's Note: This may seem obvious but it really does work. Everytime you see a weed in your flower or vegetable beds, pull it up. This keeps them from flowering and spreading their seeds.

Little Hot Houses for Starting Seeds

The little plastic "clamshell" to go boxes or containers from the deli, are excellent for starting seeds. Punch a few holes in the bottom for drainage, add soil, plant seeds and close the lid. Place in sunny spot (mine are on the shelf of my barbecue). The hothouse effect works really well. Be sure to open when the seedlings need the space, and keep it moist. (you should see condensation on the lid).

Heat a metal barbecue skewer in the flame on the stove and use it to poke holes in containers you want to use for starting seeds. The hole will melt thru, and the plastic container won't crack.

Shower Cleaning Tips

Tips for cleaning the shower and keeping it clean. Post your shower cleaning tips below.

Sponge Mops for Cleaning

Instead of the expensive new cleaning items out on the market now to clean my bathtub/shower I buy a sponge mop at the local dollar store for a dollar and use it to reach the walls in my tub. I end up spending a $1 as opposed to $17 plus the cost of replacement pads.

Planting and Growing Tomatoes

Tips for planting and growing tomatoes. Post your ideas.

Planting Tomatoes

When planting tomatoes, save rainwater in a bucket until time to plant them. Before you plant them, pour the rainwater in the hole. This way, the plants get the water they need without the chlorine of tap water which often dries the tomato plant out. Do not start watering the plants with tap water the rain will be enough, because if you start watering a tomato plant you have to do it every day.

Preparing Walls for Painting

Wash them down with TSP, (tri sodium phosphate), you'll find it by the paint supplies in any store that sells paint. Buy degreaser for stubborn spots. If you don't do it, spots will bleed through, I promise. All that work for nuttin honey. With TSP you don't need to rinse. It goes so fast, it is worth it.

Don't Feel Good and Don't Know Why?

Keep a diary of your sleep habit and what you eat. What is causing the most stress?

Good days need to be in detail, because things are happening to make you happy.

Bad days need to be in detail because things are Not happening and something is missing. Keep a diary for 30 to 90 days. Be honest. Then read it AFTER you've gone for about a month of writing things down. You'll learn SOMETHING.

Choosing a Profession Joke

I remember the story about the old country preacher who had a teenage son, and it was getting time the boy should give some thought along the line of choosing a profession.

Like many young men, then and now, the boy didn't really know what he wanted to do - and he didn't seem overly concerned about it.

One day, while the boy was away at school, his father decided to try an experiment. What he did was, he went into the boy's room and placed on his study table these three objects: a Bible, a silver dollar and a bottle of whiskey...

"Now then," the old preacher said to himself, "I'll just hide behind the door here and when my son comes home from school this afternoon, I'll see which of these three objects he picks up.

If he picks up the Bible, he's going to be a preacher like me, and what a blessing that would be!

If he picks up the dollar, he's going to be a businessman, and that would be o.k. too. But if he picks up the bottle, he's going to be a drunkard - a no-good drunkard and Lord, what a shame that would be."

The old man was anxious as he waited and soon he heard his son's footsteps as he came in the house whistling and headed back to his room. He deposited his books on the bed, as a matter of routine and as he turned around to leave the room he spotted the objects on the table. With a curious set in his eye, he walked over to inspect them.

What he finally did was, he picked up the Bible and placed it under his arm. He picked up the silver dollar and dropped it into his pocket. He uncorked the bottle and took a big drink...

"Lord have mercy," the old man whispered, "He's gonna be a politician!"

Mixing Shampoos

There is always just a small amount of shampoo in the bottom of the bottle. I mixed Suave strawberry and coconut together. It is a wonderful scent and really makes the bathroom smell nice! Now, I buy two bottles and mix the scents for an even nicer "designer" scent. Don't forget to add some water. (Yes, I learned that tip on ThriftyFun!)

Should I Declare Bankruptcy?

I never have been good at bankruptcy..

My husband and I have been married for 14 years and we have a 28k damage, 20k is all medical. I almost died and three kids and four miscarriages will do this to you.

We are of the very low income bracket. We can afford our rent, gas for paid and owned used cars, utilities, clothes and the HAVE-To'S in life. Trust me, where I could cut cost, I did. EVERYWHERE.

We can't afford to refinance medical bills and whatever else is listed on this credit report in front of me makes zero sense. We have NO CREDIT CARD DEBTS.

So, do I qualify for a bankruptcy?
