Cleaning the Ceiling without Ruining the Texture

I have dirt streaks on my ceilings near each a/c vent. Is there a way to clean the dirt off without disturbing the ceiling texture? It is the "blown texture" type and actually touching it is not an option because it destroys the texture.

Thanks.

Not sure what type heating system you have ... I do know that if you have oil heating, it is possible that you could have a cracked heat exchanger on your furnace. This generally means replacing the heat exchanger ... generally winds up replacing the furnace.

This will create soot spots around the vents. Be sure to check it out.
