I have gone to our local music store (the one that sells and repairs instruments, not the one that sells CDs) and never have had a problem finding something musical for a gift. They have items from "token gifts", like pens, pencils, note pads etc. with musical signs on them, to more substantial items suitable for gifts.

Gift certificates for local eating places. The bakery, pizza shop, etc are great. I buy these all the time and use as gifts for all ages. Older teens--a free car wash!
