From my childhood experiences here in San Francisco, we always went to a local ice cream shop called Swensen's to get our root beer freezes. To my knowledge, a Root Beer Freeze is simply a Root Beer Float blended like a shake with extra ice cream added for thickness. As a fan, i've also seen them called Root Beer Shakes and Black Cows... though with a Black Cow, sometimes soda water is added for extra carbonation.
For me the perfect Root Beer Float/Freeze uses one part Barq's Root Beer along with two parts your choice of a good premium real vanilla bean ice cream - Haagen-Daas Vanilla or Ben & Jerry's Vanilla can be found in most places if you don't have a local favorite, then simply blend and enjoy.
Warning: it can be so good you'll want to gulp it right down... so you'll want to beware of the dreaded...... brain freeze! Enjoy

Never heard of that. IS it the same thing as a root beer float ( vanilla ice cream and root beer?)
