Preserving a Sharpie Autograph on Metal?

A celebrity autographed my metal cane with a Sharpie pen. How can this be preserved?

Preserve the autograph with a can of spray clear sealant. It's sold with spray paint only it's clear. Take the cane outside and give it a couple of coats of spray sealant letting each coat dry before applying the next.

Thank You, Katie-Lou! I will try that! I think I'll test it on my old cane, first. Someone mentioned Rustoleum brand Clear Enamel, indoor/outdoor. I wasn't sure. Thanks!

Now, Judy, the burning question is: Who was it that signed your cane? If sealant does not work, but most likely it will, call a autograph specialty store and ask them. I have several autographs, the only in person one I got though, was Billy Zane, and what a gentleman he was.

My most valuable, was a letter written to me by Katherine Hepburn.
