Peanut with his Andy Dick Hair (Cocker Spaniel)

Peanut is our year old American Cocker Spaniel. We bought him from a breeder in Albuquerque, NM when he was 8 weeks old.

He likes to chase our newest addition-another Cocker (Female) named Sunnie. We call this photo his "Andy Dick" Hair!

Heart Ornaments from Scrap Fabric

Take old scraps of Quilting if you have some or your favorite fabrics and cut out a few hearts and sew up leaving a small place to stuff them and then whip stitch them shut. Then Hot glue Green and Red antique or old buttons on them for extra charm.

Sew on a gold ribbon or color of your choice for hanging. I sent them to my chat friends for Christmas. They are very light and don't cost to much to send and my friends loved the. - Mamo

Snowman Floral Bucket

Use a galvanized bucket or in this case I used a galvanized floral bucket used to display fresh flowers and paint a simple snowman on it with acrylic paints and then fill with wonderful artificial silk poinsettias and some artificial glitter or twizzle sticks for height and put in your entrance foyer.

Today's Tips

Keeping Track of Toiletries

I have a bad habit of stockpiling toiletries because I never know what I have on hand or I know I have it and can't find it. I hung a many pocket shoebag on the inside of my linen closet and now put new purchases (and those from my stash) of shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant etc in the pockets. Now I can see and find what I have at a glance.

One Dollar Gifts

When the Ladies come together just before Christmas, we each buy a gift for a $1.00 in The Dollar store. We have a gift exchange while we have our Christmas. It is so nice and it does not cost and arm or a leg. We have fun with it. What could you buy for a Dollar? Try it on your next party when you have a girls out or even the men. We all have a good laugh and it could be useful.

Pumpkin Pie Tip

To make a tasty topping for pumpkin pie, put marshmallows on the bottom of the pie crust and top with the filling, as it bakes the marshmallows come to the top.

Saving Money on Gifts - Agree on Limits

One year my sister and I decided not to spend a lot of money on each other. We chose 10 different categories (5 each) example: Warm and Fuzzy, old home place etc etc. We then had to purchase or make the items in each category and not spend over 5.00 for each item. The purchased items could only be from a yard sale or "Goodwill". It's amazing what you can come up with and not spend a lot of money. One example of a gift was: "old home place" I found a old city licence plate dated the year of her birth and the city where she was born.

Cute and Inexpensive Candlesticks

Materials needed:

  • 1 small jar lid (from instant coffee or similar size)
  • 1 pill bottle (without its cover)
  • various types of pasta such as bows, twists etc.
  • craft glue
  • white paint
  • sparkles if desired.
Directions:

Turn jar lid opening facing down. Glue bottom of pill bottle right side up to centre of jar lid. Place various types of pasta around base of pill bottle and a few up the sides a bit. After the glue is dried; paint the whole thing. While the paint is wet a bit of glitter may be added. Place a bright red, yellow or green candle in the holder and nobody will ever know how "frugal" this candlestick really is.

Starlight's Christmas Tradition

This was a Christmas Tradition for years when the kids were young. I would turn my basement into a craft area, decorate it for Christmas with a tree, and then invite all of my sisters and brothers to drop their kids off from noon till 8 pm. I would have all kinds of things planned for them to do - decorate the tree with ornaments that they each made, decorate a gingerbread house, decorate cookies, 1 to eat and some to take home, all the while listening to our favorite Christmas music. My 2 girls enjoyed this so much as well as my siblings. We got to see all the kids, and the parents got to go finish up their Christmas shopping, or wrapping.

Then I would set up my formal dining room so that we could all sit together (there were usually 12 of us) and I would serve a simple dinner they would all eat, like mac and cheese and chicken fingers, with a special holiday ice cream dessert. Then we would pile the kids into our 2 vehicles, and my husband and I would take a tour of the nearby neighborhoods to look at Christmas lights with them. When we returned, we took a picture of all the kids together and these have become cherished memories for all the kids as well as the adults.

I also bought each of them a gift and they would unwrap these right before the parents came to pick them up. A wonderful day was had by all. We would invite the grandmas to come be a part of it all as well. We did this for 6 straight years and really miss those days, but now that the grandmas have passed and the kids are all grown it is a cherised memory that we all will have forever.

Discovery with Crayola Clay and Transfer Foil

I was working with the kind of clay that air drys, not hard clay, the one I use is made by Crayola and comes in a foil wrapper. I was trying to make some jewelry. I had sheets of transfer foil, I placed the foil sheet against the slighty damp clay and the foil transferred. You use the dull side of the foil. It comes in all kinds of fun colors and is easy to make whatever shape you want,

It was one of those accidental discoveries, it was fun, because I was going to wait till the clay dried and use the sizing medium, but this turned out to be more fun. I showed it to my Grandsons and their friends and it made a big hit. Make the shape you want before it comes in contact with the foil, unless you want to dull the foil. Sorry I can't show you a picture.

Gift for Couples First Christmas

I get compliments everytime I give this bridle shower gift. I fill a box of christmas ornaments for the bride and grooms first Christmas. I pick out special ones that go with their personalities. I have picked out beach themed ornaments for my friends whose life revolves around the beach. It's fun to do and special for them.

By Beachers from West Covina, CA

For a great wedding or shower gift, buy Christmas ornaments on sale after the holiday. When invited to a wedding or shower, fill a basket (you can purchase one at a thrift store) and fill it with ornaments for the couple's first Christmas.

Convection Oven Reviews

I had a great one by Farberware about 20 years ago. When it broke, I replaced it with the same model, which never worked too well. It would burn the food without cooking it all the way (and on "low" it didn't cook much at all).

I replaced it with a Bravetti Jet Air which has lasted barely one year before it stopped heating much (and it never got all that hot, either). I liked the idea of the Bravetti because it had an option to turn the air flow to: off, low, med or high, which would cut down on over browning before cooking all the way through the food.

I am looking to replace it (right now it's a glorified plate warmer).

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Holly from Richardson, TX

Cat Won't Use Catit Drinking Fountain

My 6 year old cat drinks from the bathtub tap but we will be moving soon so I invested in a Catit Drinking fountain (quite costly I might add). He loved it for about two days and now won't go near it. I have tried depriving him of his usual water source to no avail, I have also tried just turning off the fountain and leaving the water still but he won't touch that either. Anyone got any ideas?

Replacing Caulk on a Bath Tub

I have to replace caulking around a bathtub. The caulk has become mildewy in spots. After thoroughly cleaning and removing as much old caulking as I can, will it hurt to apply new caulk over some of the old?
