Here's a beauty tip that works for me. If you have dark patches under your eyes, grate some cucumber and apply it 2 or 3 times a day.

Remember not all dark circles are from lack of sleep. some denote heart conditions, so if you have a family history or poor health, make sure you get checked out.

Request: Hiding Circles Under Your Eyes

Any ideas on hiding dark circles under your eyes? I wear concealer but the dark circles are still there.

RE: Hiding Circles Under Your Eyes

Have you tried a yellow concealer? Regular concealer may not be enough. Check out those specialty concealer kits (I think Avon makes one - cheap!) that has the yellow and green concealers. And maybe try getting a little more beauty rest! (Hey, any excuse to sleep more!) :) (04/11/2006)

RE: Hiding Circles Under Your Eyes

I have extremely dark circles under my eyes and the only thing I have found that really works is the yellow concealer by Mary Kay. blend in well with fingers or sponge, see if it covers and if not use another light coat and follow with make up foundation. It may seem expensive to begin with but it will last for years. if you have a lot of gray in your skin, as my friend does, she uses a blue or green undercover, I think she got them from Beauty Control.

Have you ever noticed on TV that a blue top or shirt be used by make up artist to draw the eye from dark circles, especially for males? (04/11/2006)

RE: Hiding Circles Under Your Eyes

I do makeup professionally and here are my best tips: use a pink based concealer first. Pink cancels the bluish tone of shadows. To apply, turn your head downward in front of a mirror as if looking at your feet. Look into the mirror with only your eyes and apply the pink concealer in the shadowed area. Use a brush for best results. LIGHTLY dust with powder. Then apply a concealer most appropriate for your skin color. Blend well by tapping with your ring finger. Never rub or you'll ruin your hard work. Don't use a lot of powder or a concealer that dries to a powder finish - that makes you look like you have wrinkles! ) (04/11/2006)

RE: Hiding Circles Under Your Eyes

Do you notice if they get darker after eating certain foods? I ask because I 'had' dark circles that I was able to get rid of once I discovered that dairy made them darker. If I ate more than the recommended serving of ice cream or cheese frequently, it would 'highlight' those circles. ;-) (04/15/2006)

RE: Hiding Circles Under Your Eyes

The best thing you can do is use a good undereye concealer to hide it, but you also should use an undereye cream to actually lighten the area. I use Prescriptives Vibrant undereye cream (available at department stores) it lightens the undereye area and uses mother-of-pearl to reflect light. You will be able to see the difference immediately! And over time you will see a HUGE difference. I don't even put extra concealer under my eyes any more!! (04/22/2006)

Any ideas on homemade remedies for dark circles under eyes and puffy bags, besides surgery?

RE: How To Get Rid Of Dark Circles And Puffy Eyes

I put a dab of witch hazel beneath my eye cream AM and PM - also cold black tea compresses are great for reducing any swelling around the eyes - I read recently that someone's mother recommended using ice cubes in the AM (cold does help reduce swelling.) The best thing is to try to keep your under-eye area from swelling. I also read about massaging the area gently on the eye socket to reduce any fatty buildup there. There are many inexpensive eye creams and eye serums on the market now. I have even gotten some from the dollar store! Get samples from the net or at cosmetic counters, and try them out until you find exactly what you need! (06/23/2009)

How to Get Rid of Dark Circles and Puffy Eyes

I read in Cosmo, the women bible, to put black tea bags on your eyes for one minute. It works. I do it those late nights that I'm up studying or just those mornings where you look like you just didn't get enough sleep. Don' bother with those eye serums unless you go for the expensive ones. Its the caffeine that makes it go way. There basically the same concept as a bruise and it just needs the blood to flow through. Good luck (06/24/2009)

RE: How to Get Rid of Dark Circles and Puffy Eyes

Sliced cucumbers or tea bags. Good luck. (06/25/2009)

RE: How to Get Rid of Dark Circles and Puffy Eyes

For both:

Lack of sleep raises cortisol levels which causes skin to retain fluid. Drink a big glass of water before you go to bed (be ready to pee in the morning!), it will reduce puffiness by decreasing the amount of salt in the body. Sleep with a fluffy pillow to elevate your head and keep fluid from settling under your eyes (gravity helps fight the accumulation of fluid under the eyes).

By morning time if this didn't work put black tea, green tea, or chamomile tea in hot water then in the fridge to come to more of a solid. Then rest them on the eye area (the tannins in black tea help reduce bloat).

Before you leave, dab on a little eye cream with caffeine (if you have any, if not then that's okay, coffee should do it)

Dark circles:

In the mean time, use a peachy tone concealer, it counteracts with blue/green circles. Using your pinkie finger works great!

If you plan on investing in a cream there are three prime ingredients to look for: 1. RETINOL- thickens skin which makes it harder to see under-lying darkness. 2. HYDROQUINONE- lightens pigment over time. & 3. VITAMIN K- helps reduce broken blood vessels.

Under eye bags (puffy eyes):

Concealer does nothing.

An optical illusion I love is using a pearl highlighter on the inner corner of eye, lower lids, and outer corner of brow. The high lighter catches light and makes your eyes appear more awake therefore less puffy. Gold eye shadow does the trick too, just use a light shimmery color.

Another make up trick: coats of mascara + eye lash curler. Big lashes make your eyes seem bigger and also more awake. Simple.

Another random thing: I believe someone in the previous post mentioned it, ice cubes! When you wake up in the morning (or any time of day) fill your sink with a combo of cold water and ice cubes. Dip a wash cloth in the sink, wring it out, then press across your face 5-10 times. *THIS WILL BE COLD ON YOUR HANDS so you may want to use a pair of latex gloves, or just kitchen gloves so the cold water won't hurt the skin on your hands. Your complexion will be revived and awakened. Who doesn't want a morning glow?

I hope this helps, sorry I wrote so much.

Good luck! Or in german: viel glueck!! :D (06/25/2009)

RE: How to Get Rid of Dark Circles and Puffy Eyes

You have already got back some wonderful feedback. I do not know about dark circles except using a concealer. For puffy eyes, as a photographer, I use hemorrhoid ointment. (06/25/2009)

RE: How to Get Rid of Dark Circles and Puffy Eyes

Preparation H for the puffiness. Do not put ice or anything frozen around your eyes. That area is very delicate. Cold is fine and cucumbers are good. Also, undereye puffiness is not caused by fat. It's caused by water retention and swelling of the tissues. Dark circles are caused by broken capillaries. Vitamin K is the best treatment for it. Also good for ruddiness around the cheeks, which is cause by the same thing. (06/27/2009)

RE: How to Get Rid of Dark Circles and Puffy Eyes

Vaseline is a petroleum product, never good for the skin. The skin is the largest organ of the body and needs to be able to breath. Petroleum products set on the skin and cannot be totally absorbed. Models often use preparation H in their eye cream to reduce swelling under the eyes. Would not suggest using it daily. The tea bag is a much better daily use. But on those occasions when you need a fast fix. Preparation H will certainly do it (07/04/2009)

RE: How to Get Rid of Dark Circles and Puffy Eyes

Personally, the hemorrhoid creams didn't work for me. I have hereditary dark circles, which got worse this summer. I read an antihistamine (like claritin, benadryl, or zyrtec) works, I tried it and, low and behold, it worked! My dark circles literally are 50% improved (and I'm a skeptic, so that says a lot). Good luck! (07/05/2009)

I had a friend whose entire family had gorgeous huge eyes but they also all had the dark circles. AVON has a cream for that and it was the one thing that worked, they said. I too have the dark circle around my eyes along with bags under my eyes, I have always had them even from a small child and would like to get rid of them without using makeup. I do not drink alcohol, and I do not consume large amounts of caffeine. I get enough sleep but they seem to be there. I think the only way to get rid of the bags is to have surgery, which I am not to likely to have, so what is a girl to do? I do not have liver disease and I have had a clean bill of health, what up can anyone help us. (08/19/2006)

RE: Dark Rings Around Your Eyes

I too have problems with dark circles. No matter how much sleep i get or what not. I was told that its likely to do with the amount of blood/nutrients/oxygen that the area gets. As the skin is so thin around the eye, any problem there is more pronounced. I have very low blood pressure so I'm inclined to believe this.

A good eye cream might help, otherwise its make up, I'm afraid (02/01/2007)

I put cucumber, tomato, potato, lemon juices, almonds, etc. I have no problem with sleep and have plenty of waters, approximately 10/12 glasses per day. Nothing makes my dark circles go away. Is there any other homemade tips to get rid of this? Which under eye cream will be the best for me? Please help me!

My mum would argue that you have recently built up an intolerance to salicylates. Look it up for all the foods that contain it, but try cutting out tea and tomatoes and whatever else has it for a few days and see if it helps. My 4 year old daughter gets the dark circles and my mum has suggested putting her on A2 milk - only been a couple of days so I don't know yet if it will help. On the other hand, my mum is always finding a new miracle cure for everything! (12/11/2008)

This can also be an indication of Iron Deficiency (I know this as I went to see a nutritionist the other day, i am vegan) or a dairy or wheat allergies. You might want to get tested for allergies and find out how high (or low) your iron count is. I just "upped" my iron and decided to cut back on wheat 5 days ago and it's already clearing up! (12/12/2008)

By freya1970

RE: Dark Circles Around Your Eyes

Dark circles can also be strongly indicative of a parasite infection (such as intestinal worms). Although it is hardly ever spoken of in the western world even in the developed world 90 % of people will have a worm-infection at least once in their life. Those of us who like gardening or eat undercooked meat or have pets or livestock or bite their nails or tend to be lacking in personal hygiene (such as not washing your hands thoroughly after going to the toilet, or before preparing and eating meals) or who eat food at restaurants where staff is less than meticulous about their own hygiene or the kitchen's can almost count on having them. Deworming at least once or twice a year (as you would with pets) does the trick.

Having a worm infection can also induce anemia (hence iron supplements) and poor absorption of nutrients ( i.e. vitamins and minerals) as well as allergies and asthma (or worse). Other symptoms might be stomach-ache, nausea, leaky-gut, fatigue, snoring, edema. (12/17/2008)

RE: Dark Circles Around Your Eyes

I too have suffered from dark eye circles most of my adult life and I have watched my mom's get darker as she aged. There has been one thing I stumbled upon that has helped me tremendously to get rid of them and that was an internal cleanse.

Often the dark circles are an accumulation of toxins in the body. I used Dr. Natura's Colonix Intestinal Cleansing system. It's a 3 part system, pills then a fiber drink in the morning, 64 oz of water total throughout the day, then a cup of their tea at night. It is highly recommended to use this cleanse for 3 months to get rid of all the toxic gunk built up in your body and digestive track over the years.

What I experienced from this cleanse was not being tied to a toilet, 3 healthy movements a day, a feeling of being finally "empty", better sleep, improved energy, less clotted, less heavy, less lengthy and less painful period, about a 15-20 lb weight loss, my stomach got flatter, my hair stopped falling out like crazy, my nails grew thicker, stronger and longer, my skin got softer and cleared up, and my dark under eye circles cleared up! Whew, that's a lot but I know I'm forgetting a few things. I'm telling you, this stuff is amazing!

I believe some of what I experienced was from the gunk/toxins leaving my body and I could then start absorbing nutrients from the foods that I ate. I also started craving fresh veggies, I couldn't get enough tomatoes, green peppers and the like about 2-3 weeks after I started taking this cleanse. Unfortunately I wasn't able to finish the 3 month program but I DEFINITELY will be doing this again. P>Check out Dr. Natura's web site, read the testimonials, look at the photo gallery. I was a believer before I received the product and started seeing results myself. Now I'm totally sold on it. You know the old saying, beauty comes from within. You have to take care of the inside to see the benefits on the outside.

Mind you, this isn't a quick, cheap fix like you asked for, but in the long run, your body with thank you for it by extending your life span. A 3 month supply of this system runs about $189.00. You can get it by the month for $88.00 but you get a price cut if you get them all at once. In addition, I've never heard of one single product that does what it says in eliminating those pesky under eye circles like I found with this product by accident. Plus, I'm no longer willing to put toxic chemicals in or on my body for any reason, let alone for beauty.

By the way, as another poster mentioned, this product gets rid of parasites in your body. They wreak absolute havoc on they body and are more prevalent than most people would even dream of. UGH!

One natural food source for iron deficiency is organic unsulfered black strap molasses. Blessings to all! twitch_64 from hotmail

P.S. I'm not affiliated with this company in any way even though sometimes I can sound like a commercial for this stuff...lol. I'm a Reiki Master/Teacher, Certified Yoga Instructor and have studied herbalism, aromatherapy, etc.

My interest in this product stems from the above passions and personal illnesses including Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Immune System Dysfunction, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Intestinal Dysbiosis, Candida, Parasites, Multiple Chemical Sensitivities, B-12 and Iron Anemia, Adrenal Fatigue, Thyroid Resistance, and hormonal imbalances.

I am in the process of detoxing my body to rid myself of these ailments and turning to nutrition, herbs, supplements, natural beauty and homemade cleaning products to eliminate further toxic buildup and rebuild nutrition. The dark under eye circles are just a warning sign from my body that it needs the right attention to heal. (01/06/2009)

I heard that it comes from lack of sleep and stress, it happens when most people have very busy lives and are not getting enough sleep and are stressed out. I would say take a couple of days off just relax around the house always watch your diet and dry to cut our dairy which may help too, make sure your getting enough sleep and try not to stress out to much and it will most likely clear up. If not go see the doctor you may have be allergic to some thing. (02/03/2009)

RE: Remedy for Dark Circles Under Eyes

Dark circles under the eyes is normally caused by too much sugar intake, so maybe try to limit the amount of sugar/sucrose/fructose that you eat or drink. Just an idea. I know that I usually get them after I eat a lot of junk food. :)

Note: The results wouldn't be immediate (compared to an eye cream, etc.), but it would cure the dark circles completely if you continually monitor your dietary intake of sugars. (02/19/2009)

RE: Remedy for Dark Circles Under Eyes

When you rub your eyes with your fists, be very gentle. Pulling the skin hard by rubbing it hard helps make that area baggy. If you press a finger for several seconds on the dark area and then take your finger away, notice that the dark area is lighter? The dark color is from blood vessels, veins, swollen and showing through your skin. You can hide the color by painting it with makeup or you can shrink the veins with cold but nothing helps for long. Thanks for posting, I have those too. (02/20/2009)

RE: Remedy for Dark Circles Under Eyes

Below are the causes of dark eye circles listed on the Mayo Clinic web site. Probably best to narrow down which category(s) are most likely the cause of your circles and then figure out what will work best for you. If you think it's medical, contact your doctor for advice. If you think yours are caused by heredity or skin pigmentation, a light application of appropriate makeup will be your best bet. If you think yours are caused by fatigue, give yourself more rest/sleep ;-) Hope this helps :-)

Allergies

Atopic dermatitis (eczema)

Fatigue

Heredity - dark under-eye circles can run in families

Lifestyle factors, such as smoking and drinking alcohol and caffeinated sodas

Nasal congestion (which dilates and darkens the veins that drain from your eyes to your nose)

Pigmentation irregularities - these are a particular concern for people of color, especially blacks and Asians

Sun exposure, which prompts your body to produce more melanin, the pigment that gives skin its color

Thinning skin and loss of fat and collagen - common as you age - which make the reddish-blue blood vessels under your eyes more obvious. (02/21/2009)

I'd rather eliminate what causes the puffiness/dark circles, which is usually watching TV in the dark, looking at the computer screen too long, not washing face/eyes with Baby shampoo/water before sleeping, and not having quality rest. I read somewhere recently that the only way to get rid of dark circles under the eyes is to have a good supply of Vitamin K in the diet. I'm not quite sure of the science, but it has something to do with Vitamin K's role in blood coagulation. Freeze some parsley in ice cubes. Use the parsley cubes instead of eye creams to diminish dark circles and puffiness. Parsley is packed with chlorophyll which helps fade darkness, while the ice cubes reduce the swelling. This I have done for years and found this remedy (natural) to be the best, as I suffer from very dark circles. Expensive creams have not been as effective. Nothing beats NATURAL and sure is cheaper! My grandson has this condition on occasion. The doctor told me that it is an inherited condition. He does have allergies, however, and the circles come and go, so I'd place my money on allergies alone. In other words, try to figure out what allergies you might have from foods, drinks, sprays, environment, chemicals, gases, or soaps, etc. If you cannot, try to get tested by an Allergist, because in the long run, you will spend WAY more for cover-up makeup over the years that is only a "band aid" for the likely real problem. You'll be happy that you did it. (11/28/2006)

RE: Dark Circles Around Your Eyes

Thank you all for responding. I don't have allergies...been tested for that. My eyes are not puffy, so the cucumber, potato, and tea bags didn't work. They did feel nice though. I have tried Avon's items, Hylexin, other brands of lightener and they didn't work either.

My dark circles go completely around my eyes, not just under the eye, no one else in my family has this problem. I can't wear make-up, for my job doesn't allow it, so I can't hide them. I was wondering if this is some type of vitamin deficiency, and AMSUN thank you, I will get some vitamin k cream and see what that does.

Other than that, I just don't know. But I am still searching and when I find something I will let you all know. Thanks again for your suggestions. (12/02/2006)

Request: Dark Circles Under Eyes

Archived on 11/26/2006

I posted a feedback in response to another feedback from someone wanting to know how to get rid of dark circles around their eyes. I too have the same problem along with bags. I have had the bags since I was a child, and over the last several years noticed that I have the dark circles around my eyes. My mom, sister, (paternal) aunt have them.

At first it looks like we have eye make up on but it is not. I have noticed that as my mother got older, her got darker. I do not have any health problems and would like to know if there are any inexpensive and effective ways to lighten the area up and get rid of the bags without surgery or botox. It seems to be hereditary, and I do not like it.

RE: Dark Circles Under Eyes

in my family we all have dark circles - these are "allergy eyes" or so I've been told. It seems it is one indicator for potential allergies or maybe a side effect?

I've had luck with mineral makeup - it doesn't irritate my sensitive skin, make me break out, or look like a hooker - it is very light. Saveral soapmakers have started making this & it is way cheaper than the name brands you see on HSN. (08/24/2006)

RE: Dark Circles Under Eyes

Avon has a nice new cream that took care of my dark circles. It is a jar divided in half with a gel and a cream for the lid and the under eye. I discovered that both the gel and the cream work the same for under eye circles. This cream provides a tightening and lifting feature.

Avon Anew Clinical Eye Lift.

Also, Essence of TIme Night Skin Conditioning Cream (from www.hsn.com) which works on bruises, too. This does not provide a tightening and lifting feature. (08/25/2006)

RE: Dark Circles Under Eyes

I have a tendency to allergy eyes and always use a dab of witch hazel under my eye cream when I apply it - It's an astringent and helps against puffiness. If my eyes get really enflamed or swollen the only thing that works is lying down with cool/cold cotton balls soaked with a tea solution. I have also found that using stye ointment on allergy irritated eyes can sooth them, too. Ans I use health food store allergy drops I can use often, even over my prescription ones - and/or plain Murine. (08/26/2006)

RE: Dark Circles Under Eyes

I read somewhere that if you cut a raw white potatoe and place it over your eye (10-15 minutes), it naturally bleaches the under eye area. The coldness of potato feels cool and refreshing to your skin and its not harmful, unless your allergic to potatoes. I got tired of waiting the 10 minutes, so I dont know if it works (08/28/2006)
