I don't have good luck washing reds, pinks, oranges with blues, so I wait until I have at least a "small" load of them and wash them separately from blues and greens, otherwise I get something like "olive" or "burple", as the grandkids call it, if there is a single NEW item that slips past me. Some sale cotton items bleed colors like mad, as do some of the "older " garments the kids like to pull from the spare closets/boxes and wear as they become "cool" within their generational fads. Those fabrics are NOT reliably color-fast, believe me. Be careful and on the safe side. Good luck and God bless.
That seems like a very good idea for larger families and where you want family members to sort their own dirty clothes. We are a family of 4 so I just sort into piles on wash day.
I do the same thing. I have 7 in our home and it is much easier to lift a whole basket and dump it into the wash. You also know right away if you have enough to fill a washer load of that color.
