Daily Thrifty Tips - March 1, 2006

Volume Five, Number 41, March 1, 2006
http://www.ThriftyFun.com

Hello,

It's already March! 2006 seems to be flying by. We are trying something new with the contests. Instead of giving out all the prizes at the end of the month, we are going to try weekly contests. We'll give away 3 $25 prizes each week, 2 for the best tips submitted and 1 for the best photo. Were hoping that this makes it a little easier for us to pick winners since we won't have to sort through a whole month's worth of entries. Thank you to everyone that submitted a tip or photo for the February contest, we hope to announce the winners around the middle of next week.

The site has been really busy this week, we have 20 new requests once again. Please look them over and see if you have any advice to offer.

We also have a new poll: How often do you go out to the movies?

Post your answer:
http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf98391835.tip.html

If you have any idea for a poll question, feel free to send us an email. It needs to be fairly simple with only a few choices for answers.

Valentine Kokoa Girl

Kokoa Girl is 3 (21 in doggie years) and is an American Staffordshire Terrier.

She was brought to us at 4 months old from a mutual party who knew the owners and thought that Kokoa Girl was being neglected. She is now 3 years old.

She likes to chase Kittys, play in the snow and in the summer time she loves to splash in the water, chase kittys, shred her toys, scare people (not really), play with the neighbor boy. Did we mention she likes to chase kittys?

Do you have anything else to share about your pet? Kokoa Girl is the most lovable, energetic spoiled little girl we've ever had. People are intimidated and think she's a bully girl when they come to our house. After seconds she's already given them sloppy kisses and showed them where all the toys are. She loves to play hard but nappy time she's ready to lay on mommy's lap. Mommy don't have the heart to tell her she's not a lap dog. So what if she's 70 pounds.

Milesy (Moggy/Ragdoll)

Milesy is about 8 months old. Milesy is a cross between a ragdoll breed and a moggy.

My Beautiful cat Tortie had him in a litter, she was a gorgous Tortishell ragdoll. Extremely affectionate with the flexible qualities of a ragdoll, just like Milesy.

Milesy likes to annoy me :)

I absolutely love him and think he has such beautiful markings. He is a suck-up. Anybody who spends time with him falls in love with him. He is extremely affectionate, and is always purring. He loves cuddles and be a photogenic grungy boy. I have many photos of him. I am so proud of Milesy. I hope you will also like his photo.

Another Deathbed Joke

A man was on his deathbed and the most wonderful smell of his favorite kind of cookie came wafting up the stairs. Ever so weakly, he crawled off the bed and somehow made it downstairs to the kitchen. He slowly reached a hand up to the counter to take a cookie and his wife whacked it with a spatula and said, "Out of those! They're for the funeral!"

Storing Chisels

You can use an old tennis ball to help protect blades on your chisels. Just cut four slits into a tennis ball and insert your chisels into them when you are not using them.

Broccoli and Cheese Soup

I love broccoli cheese soup and sometimes I make it from scratch. When I don't have the time I get frozen broccoli and cheese, put it in thin spaghetti that has cooked in chicken broth and add fresh diced onion at the last and alakazaam SOUP! Good on a cold night, if you want it cheesier, add velveeta to thicken. These are ingredients you can have on hand any time and make an elegant soup at the last minute, especially if you have some frozen or premade rolls to go with it. The size can of chicken broth is the large one and you can add water to increase the volume up to one can of the same size. I use a complete package of thin spaghetti (standard small package- I can't remember the ounces 8 is what I'm thinking but could be 12) The broccoli and cheese is found by many different labels - choose the one you like - I like green giant and get two frozen packages. One diced medium onion (yellow or red for sweetness) I make it so the two of us at home can have it for lunch the next day. Some say it is even better the next day. By Jeannie from Sturgis, SD

If you have a screw look in something made of wood, just remove the screw and fill the hole with wood putty. Let the wood putty dry and then reinsert the screw.

In Praise of Windex

Windex (original blue only) is the greatest all around cleaning product for a lot more than just windows. I use it to spray on spots of dirty laundry. It's really great for greasy spots. Also the carpet, the car seats, anything. It is safe too and doesn't hurt fabric. Also for feet after walking in sandals, while out and about, also the backs of your shoes or the bottoms to help keep carpet clean. There is no end. I love it!

Review of Kleen-Glo

There was a request for removing grease off cupboards. Kleen-Glo is a product found in some hardware - sells everything stores and it is good for household, laundry, car and anything else you want. It is one of three products that I have in the house, everything else I threw-out. Check this out and if you cannot find it, post a request and I will track down a contact.

Crochet Ball Holder

Install a toilet paper roll holder on the edge of your craft table to hold your crochet balls. It makes it easy to dispense yarn as your work on your project. If you want to use more than one color at the same time, you can install a more than one toilet paper holder.

How Can I Tell If My Cat Is Spraying?

I have a male cat that is almost a year old. He has been the only household pet until recently. We just got a puppy rottweiler, he is about 13 weeks old. The cat hates him. We are trying to house break the puppy, so he has had a few accidents around the house. I am trying to figure out if the cat has starting spraying the furniture.

I initially thought the urine smell was coming from the puppy. But no matter how much I clean up behind the puppy, a strong smell of urine continues to linger. I smell urine in places, I know the puppy has not had an accident, like when I sit on the furniture in the living room. I never had cats before and recently found out that male cats spray. How do I know for certain that the cat is spraying? What can I do to get rid of that awful odor?

Mop Reviews

Ok everybody out there, what type of mop do you use? I am looking for some advice on a good one. I have been using the Libman mop where you pull this handle down and it's supposed to wring the water out for you, but it doesn't do a very good job, so I wring it out myself. What is a good mop to buy?

Bioplastics: Growing Plastic from Plants
By Ellen Brown

A new generation of disposable plastic has arrived and it's going to revolutionize the way we produce and dispose of thousands of products. Derived from renewable plant-based raw materials, these newly developed plastics are not hazardous to produce and decompose when discarded. So does this mean we've finally seen the last of our conventional, non-biodegradable, toxin-leeching, petroleum-based plastics? Not exactly.
