The best way I've found without having to use chemicals is to use normal white vinegar and aluminium foil paper. You fold the foil into a piece you can comfortably hold in your hand, dip it in the white vinegar and rub it on the chrome with medium pressure. Make sure you wipe off the residue that comes off regularly and keep dipping the foil in the vinegar. Repeat as many times as you want and make sure the surface is always wet with the vinegar, you'll be surprised at how effective this method is and cheap and no chemicals. Some people also use coke instead of vinegar but that's too expensive. The whole thing is to get some very acidic fluid to work with the foil paper, so use your head if you don't want to use vinegar.
Clean chrome with any of the following: club soda or seltzer, spray window cleaner, baking soda, vinegar (cider or white) or lemon peel. Or use a solution of 1 part clear ammonia to 16 parts water. To remove insects from car's bumper, rub with a soap-impregnated scouring pad moistened with cola. For rust spots, rub with crumpled aluminum foil.
