In the beginning delegating seems fine. Set up a budget first. Frugal and tightwad ideas are always good. Ever hear of people getting married for 500 dollars or less. Go with Home Depo or Lows for rental of chairs they are the best prices in town. Keep the guest list to immediate family that is near you and fiance. Ask everyone else to send cards and gifts via UPS another cheap way to get gifts. Use people aka friends for their talents and careers. Know a friend who is a florist? Know a family member who is a great baker and cook? Hire them to cater your wedding, or do what the Dollar stretcher couple wrote about on their wedding day. Have the wedding on you and fiance with goods bought at grocery stores and use the bags from grocery stores as garbage bags. My personal save on my last wedding was all my stuff was bought, minus chairs and tables, at The Family Dollar Store on Highway 10 East in Moorhead, Minnesota nothing over a dollar there. Go to a dollar store near you to save money on plates, cups. stemware aka wine glasses, and table runners that look pretty and lacey. I am a Wedding Planner. I run my own business along side a Catering business too that includes the cake. I only do small weddings and I get great compliments. Just think of it this way with extremely small wedding of just immediate family no police is called due to noise ordinance by neighbors of any place. I have heard of neighbors calling police on a 600 guest wedding in a church setting in the late afternoon to evening. Weird and true. Keeping the guest list down under 30 people is the best way to go. Register also with K-Mart, Target, Sears, Bed & Bath & Beyond, Lows, Sam's Club, and Herberger's type stores are all over the USA and your family who was urged to stay home and send a card and money or gift can easily get what you want for gifts.
Make memories by using a camcorder and your own camera. Cheapest way to remember the special day. You can have the minister do the camcorder recording and pass around your camera for snapshots.
For a wedding dress chose a dress that can be sewn by someone in your family who is a good seamstress. You only need a maid of honor and her dress can be any extremely nice dress she has that isn't black. Mismatching wedding attire can be fun to look back on. Just make sure to not make the colors too loud as it might glare the camera and camcorder.
If eloping chose the city courthouse and in-town honeymoon. Less expensive just keep the honeymoon plans to the two of you that way no one will bother you for that week after the wedding. The last thing you should know is wedding announcements can be made on the computer now days with plain paper from Wal-Mart or K-Mart, and wedding rings can be had on sale at either place too and are just as good as expensive ones at private stores.

First make a list of the things you think you will need.

Then make a list of people you know that have special talents.

Call the people up, and say, "Your friendship has meant a lot to me over the years. It would make my wedding very special if you could be a part of it. Do you think you could ... for my wedding?" (play the piano, bake the cake, make the bridesmaids bouquets of flowers, etc.)

Don't try to do it all yourself-- delegate-- but do check up on the people from time to time to make sure things are moving along.

Planning a Wedding

I'm a male US Marine and I'm getting married in a year. I was wondering if anyone could give me some feedback on what I need to plan for it and the type of things to get. Something like a checklist would do perfectly. Thank you for your feedback.

You might want to start off by coming up with a theme or deciding on the colors you'd like for your wedding and reception. That way, you can plan all of the details around the theme or the colors you select. For example, if you did a tiffany blue wedding, you would plan your decorations around that, such as shown on this blog:
