When buying cheaper jewelry, rub it with WD 40 then let dry. This will keep it from turning. Rub with a soft cloth

How does this work? A protective barrier, I'm guessing. Do you use it periodically or is one application enough to do the trick? What a great tip to keep things looking nice!
