My Dog Doesn't Like to Play Ball?

I just got a Husky x German Shepherd from the pound. He's awesome and already my best mate. My question is: he won't play with a ball. He's very clever and whoever let him go has put time into him. He's about 12-18 months. He sits, lies down, shakes hands, tells me when he needs to go to the toilet, but no ball play. Is this something Huskies just aren't interested in?
