Try a cloth dampened with turpentine or alcohol and rub the stained area.

Thanks for the tip! 70% Rubbing Alcohol worked GREAT!. Poured directly on stain (black polish on very light berber carpet) and blotted up with white cloth. Rubbing doesn't hurt it as long as you blot most of it up first, then use a clean part of the cloth. Rotate cloth a lot to keep clean cloth against alcohol-soaked stain. Transfers stain to cloth.

Be generous with the alcohol if necessary. Don't worry about using too much, but start slow and add more until the stain is all gone.

Brownish/cordovan shoe polish was dropped on my deep blue carpet and was then, after being stepped on, carried onto a beige carpet as well. I poured a generous amount of 91% ISOPROPYL alcohol on a white rag and blotted it on the stain, then wiped the area with a clean part of the white cloth, until it came up. Use as much alcohol as needed until the stain disappears. It worked great! I'm probably the only one who will ever notice where the stain was.

Take a Brown paper bag and put it over the shoe polish. Then take an iron and run it over the affected area. It will soak all the shoe polish into the bag.

Oh My God! Was watching Sixth Sense and thought I'd polish my shoes at the same time. Big mistake. Dropped large amount of polish and turned to internet before fleeing house. Tried my Hugo Boss aftershave with a rag and it is back to normal. All removed. Else I too would have been seeing dead people!

70% Alcohol worked GREAT!. Poured directly on stain (black polish KIWI brand on beige carpet) and blotted up with dish cloth.

The 70% Isopropyl worked like magic on my 2000 BMW gray
carpet. My wife wore black shoes in the car to a funeral and for some reason the black shoe polish came off on her feet and carpet. I poured the alcohol right on the large stain and it was like using Oxy! Completely disappeared without
wiping (I did any way just in case).

Thanks and thanks for the great infos!

Pete

Glad to find this. No alcohol in the house, but my Victoria's Secret Body Spray (alcohol was the first ingredient in the list) worked great. Now my living room smells like nice fresh pears, too!

Worked a treat, I used ISOPROPYL ALCHOL BP 70%, you can get it from most chemist's. They may ask you what you want it for, I use it for cleaning electrical equipent. It's cost you about £4.00 for 600ml. Its the same stuff thats on the swabs, when you have an injection, or some screen cleaners. Anyhow Thanks for the tip.

I can't believe how quickly that polish came out! I have two newly made black spots on my carpet and only had 70% alcohol, came up within a matter of seconds.

I have the same question but on a wood floor!"

In Basic Military Training we used Victoria Secret's Body Splash to remove polish scuffs from tile floors and it came off real easy. I'm not sure how that would affect any finish or coating on a wood floor though.

I had a smear of brown shoe polish (about 5 inches long) on beige carpet. I tried the rubbing alcohol on it and almost all of it came up. It didn't work very well when I put the alcohol on the paper towels, but maybe because it's really worked into the carpet. When I poured the alcohol on the stain it worked great. It's much less noticible! A big improvement. I'll try it again later to see if the rest will come up. Thanks for the advice.

My boyfriend decided to polish his shoes on our carpet too and the bottle leaked black polish all over. We used 91% alcohol and it worked miracles! I was so worried that I wouldn't get it out! Thank you for the advise!

This method worked fabulously... I recommend it to anyone with beige carpets (which mine was). I used about a half bottle of rubbing alcohol and lots of paper towels... If there are any pure black areas, then I recommend you place the alcohol directly on the carpet and rub it with lots of elbow grease.. THANKS!!

Rubbing alcohol worked for me too. I was not thinking that there was anything I could do. I was so worried. My 3 year old daughter opened a bottle of black shoe polish and it spilled on my beige carpet. It took it all out. Only the trained eye would know any different. I am so thankful!!!!!!!!!
