Egg Shell Seed Starters

I read somewhere and looking forward to trying this with my Granddaugher. Start seeds in empty egg shells. Treat the carton like a lil green house. After plants have reached a size to plant put egg shell which you've crushed into the ground. I've not tried this, but it sounds like a really neat idea and a fun time with my granddaughter too.

It's a great idea and it does work for starting seeds. And the blue Jay that stole them loved it too...

I have not used egg shells,I use eggs cartons to start lettuce seeds, this works better than plainting in the garden. I don't have to thin the plants and you can usual plant into the garden soon after the seeds start to grow. I cut the top off the egg carton punch drain hole in each egg section and place in lid to catch excess water.

I would recommend instead of egg shells strafoam or paper cups. For depending on what you seedling is your are trying to grow. It could over take the egg shell in no time. Be cautious on what you are trying to grow. For it may be bigger then the egg shell. Strafoam cups lined on a cookie tray works grand for all gardeners big or small to grow something wonderful. Happy gardening!

What a simple, fantastic, environmentally-friendly recycling idea! Please let us know how it works and if there's anything to watch out for.
