You most likely have an Eastern Yellow Bellied Racer. It is most definitely NOT poisonous, though he may try to trick you by vibrating his tail in the dry leaves to make a rattly sound. He can crawl very fast, climb trees; and he eats small rodents, small amphibians, etc. Like any snake, he will try to bite, and will thrash about if grabbed, but left alone, he will help keep your property free of small furry pests.
