Using Selvage Edges for Crafts

Instead of throwing away the selvage edges you cut off fabric, use them to make items such as The Selvage Queen Teddy Bear. There are many other items you can make -- quilt blocks, tote bags, quilt borders, just use your imagination.

Reuse Earplug Cases For Storage

I have used the waxy earplugs to help me sleep for a while. I love the containers, and use them for all kinds of things. I have a nice new deck of cards in one, my business cards in another, a mini sewing kit in another (in fact, the dollar trees' have mini sewing kits in them already), mini first-aid kit, craft items, and soooooooo much more! Enjoy!

Create a Kids Table at Your Wedding Reception

If you are planning on having "kid tables" at your reception, be sure to substitute kid friendly centerpieces and favors. A basket of crayon flowers and coloring books not only look great but will give the children something to do during those times when it is not appropriate for them to be running around and playing.

Crayon flowers are easy and very inexpensive to make. snip buds (leaving a stem just slightly shorter than the crayon) from a bouquet of artificial flowers that compliment your color scheme then secure them to the crayons by wrapping floral tape around the stem and the crayon. You can use store bought coloring books or make your own by printing wedding clip art found for free on the internet.

My husband and I chose to make our own; using a three hole punch we put about 15 different coloring pages along with a few blank pieces of paper and a note from us in a folder. We were surprised (and a bit choked up) to find notes and pictures drawn of us left on the tables!

Max (American Bull Dog) and Buster (Staffordshire Bull Terrier)

Max is an American Bull Dog and Buster is a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Max is 10 weeks old (August 14). We got him as a puppy at 6 weeks old. Buster is 4 years old and we got Buster from a dog's home.

Both of them like running around the garden and playing with my kids. They love their toy bones.

They are different types of dog but they have the same colours and they make us laugh.

Craft Tip For Working with Dark Colored Yarns

I am the owner of a Yahoo craft group and help to lead a local community craft group in Frankfort, Kentucky. In our area group and on our web site, we always try to help each other make projects become a little more enjoyable to make. I discovered many of my group's members were having the same troubles crafting hand-made yarn projects. Those who are visually impaired and even some of our seniors find that it is very difficult to see where to place the next stitch while using black and other darker colored yarns. One day, I took on the task to try and find a remedy. I eventually discovered that if a crafter places a white towel or pillow case under the project being worked, the white shows through the small holes previously made, thus making it easy to see where those next stitches go.

Another problem faced was similar, the difficulty seeing where the stitches go while using thick yarns to knit or crochet. I found that if I use a second strand of lighter weight yarn yarn in a contrasting color, along side the thick fluffy yarn strand, the light fingering weight yarn becomes a guide to where I need to place the next stitch. Overcoming frustrating obstacles like those mentioned, makes all the difference between a work in progress (WIP) and a completed hand crafted project, made with pride and satisfaction.

Use Sugar and Borax for Ants

Getting rid of ants is easy. Mix sugar and borax together and sprinkle it in the path of the ants. The ants will take it back to the nest where the borax will kill the ants' food supply. Too bad for the ants.

Use Pantyhose To Remove Deodorant Residue

My mother in law gave me great tip that I use almost everyday. When I am getting dressed and accidentally get deodorant on my shirt or dress, I grab a pair of pantyhose wad them up into a ball and quickly rub the white stain out. This works so well never fails!

I hope this will help others because its frustrating enough just to figure out what you want to wear!

Store Important Items In Dishwasher In An Emergency

If you ever need to leave in a hurry because of a flood approaching, a good place to store important items (computer tower, pictures, etc.) is in your dishwasher. It has a watertight seal that will protect your items. You could also put items in your FRONT loading clothes washer. It will not work with a TOP loader clothes washer.

Product Review: Amodex

I got sharpie marker all over an expensive dress and did research on how to remove it safely. The sharpie website recommends a product by the name of AMODEX. I followed the instructions, which are really easy. Just place paper towels behind stain and apply cream. Brush it into stain and continue moving paper towels to clean area as it collects stains. I did have to leave it on the stain all day and checked on it often, but it all came out and it was quite a bit. According to Amodex, it is safe to use on all fabrics and it takes out a bunch of different stains. Please note, they also claim the lacquer in hair spray sets the stain as does alcohol and water. Also, I found it at the Container Store.

Use a Dog Bone As a Foot Massager

I saw the tip about exercising a bad back/leg/foot with a Pringles can and had to tell you my discovery. I had one of those leg problems and found that if I rolled a rubber nubby dog bone shaped toys under my foot, it not only relieved my leg pain but gave my foot a massage!! They can be found in any pet dept and are inexpensive too!

Shadow-Box Coffee Tables

Shadow-box coffee tables are a great addition to any family room and are fairly cheap to purchase (even cheaper to make yourself). I like to display heirlooms such as our family bible, antique jewelry, old books, etc., which can be changed with the seasons. The Bible is too fragile for daily use but is a really special conversation piece whenever we have company.

Chop and Wait Before Cooking With Garlic

There is new scientific evidence that eating garlic may reduce your chances of getting a heart attack. In order to be most effective, the garlic needs to be chopped up and sauteed or cooked for a short while. The beneficial ingredient will develop over time so be sure to chop up the garlic and let it sit for about 10 minutes before using.

Usually I would chop the garlic as my last step before throwing it in the pan. Now I just make sure to mince or press garlic as my first step when cooking and then prep the rest of the food. It is easy enough to do if I know it is important.

Source: I read about this in Cooking Light magazine. It was such an easy change in my routine that I thought I would share it with everyone else.

Dear Webby's Joke of the Day

Two golden-agers were discussing their husbands over lunch. "I do wish that my John would stop biting his nails. He makes me terribly nervous."

My Fred used to do the same thing," the other woman replied. "But I broke him of the habit."

"Really, how?" asked the first woman.

"Easy, I hid his teeth."

Removing Rubber Sole Shoe Marks from Hardwood Floors

I have marks on my wood floor caused by rubber sole shoes. How do I remove them? I've tried wood cleaner but it doesn't work. We did the floors from laying them, staining and then putting a hi-gloss finish on them. I'm hesitant to use the tennis shoe trick since this is what actually caused the scuff marks. These are real wood floor stained with gloss finish. Any suggestions? How do I remove the marks?

The Queen of Fall Flowers - the Magnificent Mum
By Ellen Brown

Chrysanthemums are the quintessential flowers of fall. From blazing golden yellows to rich shades of mahogany, when it comes to intense color, nothing in the fall garden can match their showy display. It is no wonder that mums are the most widely grown pot plant in the United States; compact varieties with long-lasting blooms are great for containers on balconies and decks. These magnificent jewels are easy to transplant and grow-no garden should be without them.
