Today's Tips
To keep your home free of odors and musty smells place an empty can or bag of regular grilling charcoal in the closets, rooms and basements (also fresh uncooked coffee works but charcoal is best) straight out of the bag. The charcoal will last forever if one bakes it then you can reuse it but with it so cheap I discard it and start with fresh each year. I never thought I'd like it in the oven after absorbing odors for a year. The coffee gives a nice smell but it don't last as long as charcoal. By MaryBelle Wright Editor's Note: Make sure you use the regular charcoal, not the self-starting kind which contains lighter fluid. Also, put the charcoal in a can or plastic container, leaving the top open.

Inexpensive Gift with Rave Reviews!
have a gift idea that always gets rave reviews. I wrap a small photo album purchased at Michael's for $1, a disposable camera at Walmart for $3.50 (plus there's usually a $1 coupon in Sunday's paper) and a $5 Walmart gift card for developing. This gift is appropriate for kids as young as 5 years old (who usually aren't trusted with a "real" camera), freshman at college, new mom or grandparent and "going away" gift.

Whenever I see some junk to be picked up I amble over to it and look at it. I find perfectly good furniture, clothing, and other things that are useful around the apartment or house. I was homeless for a while so I had nothing. As soon as I got my apartment (2 years later) I bought some furniture new (a sofabed) but the rest I found in the junk. I did buy some used dressers also, but most of my furniture is someone elses unwanted things. A little paint and scrubbing is all this stuff needs. Since I have everything I need and some of the things I want, I don't do this a lot anymore, but that habit was a money saver supreme. By mmgarren

Featured Feedback: RE: Make Your Own Baby Food The Fast and Inexpensive Way
Hi to all mothers. I have 3 children myself and I only gave them jars in emergencies. It's really very easy to do and you KNOW what you're feeding your children. I usually made everything fresh, it takes so little time and you always have the benefits of fresh vitamines. Depending on the age, just use 1 small potato, any veggie, the more you get your child used to different foods, the better and a tiny piece of meat (chicken works fine). Steam or microwave and just mash everything with a fork. Putting it in the blender causes the vitamines to oxidise because of all the air beaten into it and you lose all your benefits. Don't use seasoning, the child gets to know the REAL taste of food and it's much healthier.
Fruitporridge is also very easy to make and it tastes sooo good that sometimes I still have to make it for my kids who are now 9,8 and 6. I even had to make extra's for hubby when they were small.... Just take any fruit, and a soft cookie like "betterfood". Break the cookie in smaller pieces, pour fresh orange juice over it (to soak) and then add any fruit according to season. Mash everything with a fork or rasp harder fruit, like apple. Most babies just love it. If you think this all takes too much time, think of the benefits for your babies. I always stayed working and combine, kids, house and work and I'm still alive (lol) It's worth putting some effort in important things. I now have very healthy, sporty, slim children! Good eating habits start from VERY early.

Featured Feedback: RE: Saving Money on Dishwasher Soap
A few years ago I learned the the dishwasher could do just as well using only half of the detergent that I thought was required to clean them. Now I fill the cups only half way full and save alot of money doing it. I do rinse the dishes off before loading them though. I never have to rewash anything. Try it and see what you think.

Today's Recipe: Oatmeal-Apple-Raisin Muffins
By LeAnn R. Ralph
These muffins are not only tasty, but they're also a good source of fiber. In recent years, health experts have come to realize that fiber is an important part of a heart-healthy diet. Using Canola oil also increases the health benefits of these muffins.
Ingredients:
Directions:
Pre-heat oven to 375 degrees. Chop apple and put into a mixing bowl. Add the raisins. Measure out the remaining ingredients. Stir just until the dry ingredients are moistened. Grease muffin cups and fill to 2/3 full. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown. Allow to cool for 5 to 10 minutes, then remove from the muffin tins. Makes 2 dozen muffins.
Hint: Instead of greasing the muffin tins, use cupcake papers. That way you won't have to work so hard to scrub out your muffin tins.

Hello! I just found this site and I think it is terrific. What would be a good way to clean my new eyeglasses (high index plastic) lenses? I have heard that soap is too harsh and that tissues will scratch the lens. Does anyone have any 'thrify' alternatives? Thanks. Anjeena in New York

My home's stucco is in need of repair. I've heard you should not paint over stucco, but I know some folks who have done just that. Just wondering if the reason for not painting over stucco is due to moisture getting in between the new paint and the underlying stucco. And, is there any newer type exterior paint these days that would work well over stucco (after repairing the stucco cracks, of course)? I find it hard to believe with the technology these days, that someone has not figured out a way to paint over stucco (must less expensive, and can be changed easier). Thanks for any suggestions. Sandy in NM

Tips for Cleaning the Bathroom with Small Children
What is the easiest and quickest way to clean two bathrooms? I have two full bathrooms and a six month old little boy. He is in to everything so I can't leave him to do it and I was told not to let babies get around the smell or cleaners because it is bad for them. I could probably do it in the time that he is sleeping but he only takes 15 minute naps now so it has to be very fast! What takes the dirt out of a tub the best? I can't find anything that works good. Thank you! eescott182002 (at) yahoo (dot) com Erricka, North Carolina

Affordable Wedding Receptions
By Rachel Paxton
Wedding receptions don't have to cost a fortune. Many families are on tight budgets these days, limiting the parents' ability to contribute financially and placing much of the burden of wedding expenses on young couples who are just starting out in life and on limited budgets themselves.
