"Picasa is software that helps you instantly find, edit and share
all the pictures on your PC. Every time you open Picasa, it
automatically locates all your pictures (even ones you forgot you
had) and sorts them into visual albums organized by date with
folder names you will recognize. You can drag and drop to arrange
your albums and make labels to create new groups. Picasa makes
sure your pictures are always organized."
When going shopping anywhere, take a pal. Let them in on what you're looking for, and likewise. It's so weird that 2 people can go in a store and what one person sees, that the other person misses. Once, upon returning from a shopping at the same yardsale, my Mom was amazed at all my purchases, that she'd overlooked or not seen at all. Some people just shop the areas of their intent, while others shop a more vast area.
After burning large candles, you usually have a lot of wax left (sometimes scented). I melt the leftovers to make newer, smaller candles and just use birthday candles as the wicks. you can also melt crayons with the wax for some interesting effects.
This works well for both sides of the family. Months before the wedding--ask family members to gather photos of the bride and groom from infancy to adulthood. Each family member or family creates a scrapbook page with photos and written memories, often letters to the bride or groom on marriage and love is a nice touch too.
The book is assembled before the wedding and presented at the reception. It is not only a keepsake for the happy couple, but is quite entertaining for the guests to view too.
My food budget has been growing every week, so I sat down and looked at what I could start doing to cut back and still eat quality meals. This is the plan and I am seeing a difference in my spending. Maybe, it will help you, too.
On the week end I sit down with my grocery ads and plan out the week of meals. Not only do I save money by shopping the sale, I am saving money by planning what we will have for meals, thus not waiting until 3:00 in the afternoon to think about dinner plans, driving to the store and picking up more items then needed. Going to the store once a week, also makes me use what leftovers I have. This has not only saved money, it has caused me to be more creative with meals and not fix the same thing week after week. Don't forget to use your coupons.
If you have pets or animals that roam your area try adding chicken wire under your plants. This way if something tries to dig in your garden or flower beds, it will stop them in their tracks. Most animals who dig do not like the feeling they get when they scratch their paws along the wire. It also serves a dual purpose - it acts as a grid for planning your plantings!
One old-fashioned and frugal way to keep in touch with relatives and friends is to act as a "clipping service" for them and send on newspaper articles, etc. they will find of interest. (I also did that for a non-profit organization I volunteered for.) You would be surprised how useful that can be! (Folks still pay for that service, you know.)
I use scissors a lot in the kitchen when I am cooking to keep then from getting rusty. I spray them with Pam either before, or even after, I put them in the dishwasher. That way, they are lubricated and you don't have to worry about lubricating them with any other type of oil.
Use any good baking apple. Cut in half and core, but do not peel. Place in deep baking pan or dish. Pour some water around apples. Put on each apple: 2 Tbsp. of brown sugar and 1 tsp. of butter. Bake at 350 degrees F until done and tender. Baste once in a while and watch closely!
This will rid your house of them for good. I use it constantly.
1/4 cup of vinegar 1/4 cup of apple juice 3 drops of clear dishwashing soap
They flies will be attracted to the 'ripening apple scent' dive in and the soap washes the wax coating off their bodies and they drown. A favorite thing for my kids to do is to count how many we catch EVERY DAY. This is a fail safe natural and VERY simple method to rid your house of them. Good luck!
For foggy windshields in your car, keep a black board eraser handy (felt kind) and keep it under your seat or in your glove compartment (in other words, handy) to use it when you need it. It's better than any cloth or rag.
Once again I want to hear it from all you talented individuals.
Here's my dilemma: I have 24 pairs of shoulder pads in very good condition. I realize that they are out of style (but if I decide to keep them long enough I know they will come back into vogue). I absolutely detest "wasting" and other than using them to hold pierced earrings, I don't know what to do with them. I don't want to toss them out. Do you have any creative ideas? I thought with girl scouts, arts and crafts, etc. getting back into swing that maybe some leaders could offer me some guidelines.
Thanks ahead of time for coming to the rescue (as I know you always do).
I bought a 101 year old house and it has multiple layers of wallpaper that the previous owners painted over. It is buckling in certain spots where the wall meet the ceiling. The wallpaper is on all walls and ceilings just to let you know. I want to paint this but I am afraid that it will start to peel off worse than it already is. I also tried to take the wallpaper off in a small area and it was hard since there are to many layers. How can I fix the areas that need fixing without the buckling getting worse and without stripping all the wallpaper.
Wrinkles in my sheers won't come out either using a hot steam iron, or hanging wet and stretching, or wetting then ironing. I'm out of ideas. Anyone know a better way to de-wrinkle sheers?
How do you get large massage oil stains out of sheets? These stains are practically full body imprints! They are faint, but visible and too large to spot treat. We've added degreaser to the wash, tried dawn dish liquid to spot treat. But nothing has worked. My daughter was hired to wash sheets twice weekly from a local massage therapist. Some of these stains have been washed and dried many times. The massage therapist actually recommended we try 1 cup of detergent, plus 1 cup of oxyclean, plus 1 can of coke. However, we have a front loader machine that cannot handle that volume of cleaner! And wouldn't coke discolor white sheets? Some of the sheets are white, off white, sage green, and dark purple.
My painted wall in may 2nd floor bedroom started to peel and I tried to remove it. I could not get the paint off or smooth. It's a real mess. Any ideas?
We have paneling to put up in a living room but the walls are plaster. Question: Can we put paneling over plaster or do we put wall board or do we knock out wall and start from scratch? Thanks for any advice.
