This homemade hand cream (or body cream, whichever you prefer) is so much better than any other hand cream you can buy. It is so easy and so inexpensive to make too! I go to Dollar General and buy everything I need to make it. Recipe follows:
  • 2-4oz. jars Vitamin E cream
  • 1-8oz. jar vaseline
  • 1-16 oz. bottle baby lotion
Mix with electric mixer till smooth and store in jars with lids.

Note: If you think the smell of the baby lotion is too strong, you might be able to find unscented lotion.

Source: My source is from a friend.

This recipe is fantastic! My hands usually crack and bleed in places in the winter because I wash my hands so often. This winter, I made a batch of this recipe and applied it to my hands and feet before going to bed so it had a chance to really soak into my skin overnight. The end result is that my hands and feet look great with no dry patches or ragged cuticles. When I run out, I plan to make another batch and share with my family and friends. This is great stuff!

If you heat the vaseline a little in the microwave, it mixes so much easier and doesn't have lumps of vaseline in the lotion.

I have purchased all sorts of hand creams (even ones that are very expensive) to help with my dry hands and heels. None of them ever worked. It was even suggested that I put the spa cream on my heels, wrap my feet in plastic wrap, and sleep with socks to stop the dry cracking heels. This was very annoying and didn't work. Thanks to this homemade cream I now have smooth heels and hands.

I love this cream. I use my mixer and put the bowl and beater through the dishwasher 2X on the hot cycle by itself. I have had no trouble with it causing food problems. I guess I'm behind the time but what is the scoop on vasoline being harmful?

I also don't like vaseline. It is a petroleum byproduct and not
exactly healthy. There are un-petroleum jelly's out there, try those please.

Some people object to mineral oil (even though it seems to be in every commercial skin cream) because it dissolves important vitamins and hormones, and then your body excretes them.

Instead of baby oil, which is just scented mineral oil, you can use any cooking oil - soybean, canola, corn, olive, etc. I've made hand cream with cooking oil and it turned out fine. I liked the fact that it was inexpensive, unscented and had no polysyllabic chemicals in it.

Use unscented lotion and add the essential oil of your choice.

Do not store in a metal container. Be sure to reuse the containers or use glass/plastic.

Please tell me you aren't using the same electric mixer that you use to make food in your kitchen! Who knows whether what is in the vitamin E cream and baby lotion is edible! Get a seperate mixer to use ONLY for the purpose of making this cream and other non food items.

I need to make a correction on this. Use 2 (4 oz.) jars of Vitamin E cream instead of 2 (8oz.) jars. So sorry about this.

Editor's Note: We changed the original recipe to show this change.
