Most airlines are charging for luggage. I have been shipping my things Fedex that is picked up at my door, and at my destination when I arrive.

I've used the USPS to ship some last-minute items that we didn't get packed in time for the moving company. The USPS didn't lose anything, which is more than I can say for the movers.
Sounds like a plan, especially with airlines charging up to $45 per item!
