A campfire is for the whole family. All you need are some sticks and a backyard and all of a sudden you have a party everyone wants to attend. Who doesn't remember roasting marshmallows on an open fire? We tend to forget the simplest of things that will be easily remembered by the children of the video generation. What could be better than a Fresh Salad Bowl? I use a low ceramic bowl, plant a variety of lettuces and herbs each spring. Throughout the summer I go out to my Salad Bowl and pick fresh greens for dinner. It makes a great centerpiece for the outdoor patio table as well. By Susan D. from Portland OR Contest Contender!

Simon is 9 years old. He is a West Highland Terrier. We bought Simon from a breeder in AR. He flew all the way to CT to be with us! He likes to play what we call the "biting" game, he pretends our sleeves or hands are toys and he nips at them and pretends he's biting. He is one of the greatest gifts our family has ever received. Carry Sun Screen Samples in Your Purse Are you always perspiring the sunscreen off, and have to re-apply on the go? Those samples of moisturizer with sunscreen are great for carrying around in your purse during the summer for extra applications. (Ditto on plain Amall suncreen samples.) They are also great for travel. By Pamphyila from LA, CA Contest Contender!

My husband, a Viet Nam veteran, was talking to a friend about some household improvements we were making when the friend shared this very informative tip. Lowe's Home Improvement stores offer a 10% discount to veterans every day. All you need to give them is something that identifies you as a veteran. That thoughtful offer on the part of Lowe's makes us even more loyal shoppers there, and the 10% is welcomed! By Sandy from Elon, NC Contest Contender!

Before you throw out a shower head that just doesn't spray right. Soak it in vinegar/baking soda. Remove shower head. Set in big bowl with spray side down. Sprinkle baking soda into inlet hole (a couple teaspoons should do) now pour vinegar in, enough to cover the head. Watch crud boil away. Soak over night. Wrap threads of shower inlet pipe with plumbers tape and reconnect. By julesthered from Yakima, WA Contest Contender!

Toy Wagon for Child's Shoe Storage A small child's wagon, either metal or plastic, makes for great shoe storage container by a front or back door, or even in the child's bedroom. This way it's easy to put shoes away, and keeps them centrally located and easy to find when you're rushing out the door. By Thriftsavvy from West Dundee, IL Contest Contender!

Tigger's Tomato and Turkey Jerky With all the recent problems with pet foods, I like to make my cat her own treats. This is tasty and fairly easy to make, but most of all, you know what's in it. She loves this one and the brewer's yeast is good for repelling fleas. Ingredients:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 120 degrees F or whatever your lowest setting is. Combine all ingredients and mix well. Line a jelly roll pan(cookie sheet with sides) with foil and spread meat mixture on it. Flatten with hands to abut 1/4 inch thick. Place in oven, propping open the door a crack with a wooden spoon so the moisture escapes. Bake about 2 hours or until meat is quite dry. Remove from oven, place another sheet of foil over the top of the first one. Grasping both sheets of foil(with oven mitts please!), flip the meat over and peel the foil off the top. Place the new foil with meat on it on the pan again and put back in the oven, again propping the door open with spoon. Bake for another 1-2 hours. Jerky looks red and dry, a lot like jerky made for people when done.

Refills for Swiffer Carpet Flicker I have been looking everywhere for the refills for the Swiffer Flicker but they are nowhere to be found. However, I have found an alternative. Buy yourself some sticky mouse pads, trim the sides and since it is sticky only on one side put the sticky side on top not the bottom and take a paper punch and punch a hole where it snaps on to lock. This directs whatever you pick up to the inside of the swiffer where it will hold more than the regular double sticky side would. They last longer. If you use an exterminator, you can get them for free from them. By Pepawr from Paris, Tennessee Contest Contender!

Rate It: Years ago, in the late eighties or early nineties there was a made for TV movie entitled "Lucky Day". It was about a mentally challenged woman who owned a winning lottery ticket. It was a sweet, touching "coming of age" movie and I would love to see it again. I believe it starred Kathleen Wilhoite (ER, The Gilmore Girls, etc.). But I looked in her film biography and didn't see it. Anyone remember the movie? Thank you. Rate It: I own several Pyrex, glass measuring cups that will not come clean. They all have a film on them. I have tried scouring by hand and running in the dishwasher. I have tried bleaching them, letting them sit overnight in various soaps and bleach, etc., but no luck. I specified they are made of glass, because I'm not sure if Pyrex makes only glass products. Rate It: Causes of Ear Infections in Dogs My Golden Lab gets infections under her ear flaps. Why does this happen? That is my question. I want to add that I soak a cotton ball in Colloidal Silver and clean the infected area thoroughly. This works better than antibiotics; only a couple of times and she is on the mend. It can be bought at Health Food Stores. Expensive, but cheaper than veterinarians and medications. By the way, it can be taken internally also. I pour a tablespoon in a cup of water and top with a slice of bread. She may not be thirsty but always ready for a snack. Rate It: Chemical Reactions Between Cleaners Is it safe to use several of the great "Homemade Steam Cleaner Solutions" posted on your site? It is amazing the amount of great posts received regarding "Homemade Steam Cleaner Solution". I'm anxious to try each and everyone to see which I like best. If I spray Hydrogen Peroxide on the spot where my dog just threw up on my carpet, is it safe to clean the whole carpet with another product like vinegar, or Oxi-clean, or LA Awesome, several hours later? Is there cause for concern of mixing products once the area dries? These are questions I've had for years. I really don't want to "OD" my family, friends, or pets because I am ignorant as to what will mix or not mix with products used prior to my present cleaning project. Once the carpet is dry should you have concerns about products used next to clean carpets? Thanks. Post Feedback: http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf23862787.tip.html
