Should I Let My Son Quit Football

My son signed up for Football. At first he went to all the practices and is doing great at it. Now that school has started (he stated junior high and new school) he is fighting that he does not want to go, that he is getting really bad headaches. He says it is to hard with school and Football. Do I let him quit, or make him finish the season? Any advise?

Detail Mini Lamp Shades

This is a great way to accent those mini lamp shades or even large ones.

Approximate Time 30 minutes

Supplies:

  • lamp shade
  • needle

Instructions:

To add some flair to a ordinary lampshade, take a pin and poke holes along outline of picture. This one was from the $1.00 store and had a print on it. If you can not find one you like, use decoupage to add a photo and poke holes around design. Looks better in person than in photo and you can make these for anyone. I put 30 minutes to do but it depends on size of lampshade and amount of holes needed. This is kind of like the punch tin effect but with the paper shades.

What is This Tree (Mexico)?

I would like to identify this blooming tree. The tree seems to be from the mimosa group from the leaves and seed pods. The picture was taken in southern Mexico in July.

Thank you

Make Your Own Toy Food

I see toy food for sale all the time and think that not only is it a waste of money. It may not even be safe with all the recent recalls. Save pint-sized milk cartons, empty pizza boxes, empty mac n'cheese boxes, any food container; wash them out and tape the boxes shut and give them to your toddler. You can even cut out the pictures of food from the boxes. They love to pretend to cook and eat and this will give them something to do while you cook!

Keep Stain Stick Near Clothes Hamper

Here is a tip for keeping clothes nice longer! I have had to throw out clothes with small stains, because we didn't notice them soon enough to treat the stain. I have started keeping a laundry stain stick next to each of my hampers. Now whenever anyone undresses, they can quickly look over their clothes and treat small stains right away.

Rubber Band to Remove Excess Paint from Brush

When painting, stretch a large, wide rubber band from the top to the bottom of the paint can so that the rubber band lays across the widest part of the opening. After dipping the brush into the paint, wipe it against the rubber band, instead of the lip, to remove excess paint. You'll be left with a clean can and the lid will be easier to replace.

Cleaning Tips with Recycled Materials

Tip #1: Use the container from Lays Stax chips for storing your grocery bags on your cleaning cart.

Tip#2: For anyone who works in a campground. Use the plastic grocery bags for taking the garbage out of the bathroom and shower garbage containers. At end of week put fresh bags in all the garbage cans. This helps save time and money. Only change bags more often if they are really BAD!

Tip #3: These plastic store grocery bags are also good for personal home bathroom waste can. I sprinkle a little baking soda in bottom of waste can and put a new dryer sheet there too. Helps keep can smelling fresh. I also do likewise odor control with kitchen waste can.

Tip #4: For cleaning tile grout in tough to reach places, use a battery powered toothbrush. Works really great with Mildex brand cleaner and Soft Scrub too. Just remember to keep it with your cleaning supplies. Label it for grout only and go over the label with clear nail polish 3 times.

Donate Craft Items to Local Non-Profits

Donate your craft items that you know you won't use to a local shelter workshop. Many shelter workshops do not have work for the clients to do on a consistent basis, yet they still need something to do while there. Before you discard broken crayons, compact disks, left-over yarn, scrap wood, or other items, call your local board of Mental Retardation/Developmental Disabilities or Homeless Shelters and see if they could use them. There's a good chance they can.

Wading Pool For Yard Waste

A large hard plastic baby pool makes a great container for cleaning up leaves and yard debris. Punch 2 holes in the side and run a rope through to make a handle so you can drag it around.

Suggestions For 4-H Craft Project

Hello everyone! My oldest daughter has joined the local 4-H group. She will be doing an arts and crafts project and then a presentation about it in February '08. We have no experience with 4-H and are hoping someone on this site could suggest some really good project ideas suitable for the program. She is very crafty and artistic, so even a difficult project would be a possibility. I hear 4-H is great and we are looking forward to learning all about it.

Neutered Male Cat Spraying In The House

I have been having trouble for a couple of years with my male, neutered, indoor cat spraying around the house. He has a litterbox that I scoop everyday. He's been checked out by the vet. The vet also suggested an expensive pheremone plug-in that didn't work. I spray affected areas with enzyme spray. There are periods of time he doesn't do this, but it is definitely an ongoing problem. He is about 10 years old and never had a problem with this before. Any advice?

Cleaning Textured Bathtub Floor

I have a textured bathtub floor that I can not get clean. My mom has the same type of bathtub, and between the two of us, we can't find anything that will clean deep down in the grooves of the textured surface.
My mom's tub isn't used that much, but mine is in our master bath. It looks absolutely grungy down in the grooves and nice and clean on the sides that I can clean easily.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Grass Clippings Getting Stuck In Crocs

I have worn a pair of Crocs all summer and love them. I know the cheap reproductions of the original Crocs are not the same. However, the only problem I have is when I walk in the grass I get grass clippings inside through the holes. The grass is dry and picks my feet like needles. I think the rubber causes static and attracts the grass. It sticks to the rubber and has to be brushed, washed or shaken out. It has to be done very often and it's bothersome to do so. Has anyone else come across this problem?

Getting Rid of "No See Ums"

I have these "no see ums" in my home and they bite. They fly and are almost impossible to see. I do see them but they disappear fast. I had the pest control people in and they sprayed the floor but that has not worked. These flying monsters don't affect my indoor cats. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Moisture Problems On Ground Floor Apartment

I just moved into an apartment which is on the ground floor. The lawn outside of our bedrooms and patio is very wet. The soil is very muddy. I therefore suspect the apartment has some dampness problem. This is confirmed by the strange odor every time I entered the apartment. Moreover, these days, I saw many bugs on the carpet. The strange things are those bugs are everyone on the carpet but they are all dead. I don't understand that why they could move to the empty space but are dead there. Thanks.

Housetraining 1 Year Old Min Pin

I had a Min Pin that I had house trained, and he was outside and somebody ran over him a couple days ago (I am 23 and cried like a baby). My 2 year old was super attached to the little guy so I got another one and the people that I got him from had done nothing to try to house train him. He is 1 year old, any tips or ideas on how to get him at least started house training? I wasn't sure if crate training would work with him already being a year old. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

More Dandelions Than Lawn

I recently bought a house in the country. My lawns are chock full of dandelions. There is wild grass and dry arid soil. Many small rocks as well as we are located on the side of a small mountain. How do I get rid of the dandelions which virtually cover the entire lawn, without destroying the grass. What little there is.

Kitchen Paint Color to Match Maple Cabinets

I'm trying to determine what color to paint my kitchen walls. I have natural maple cabinets, white appliances, white tile floor with a little bit of a very light brown. Haven't selected the granite countertops yet, but will probably be gray-blackish. I was thinking about painting the walls a light yellow?
