I've been using 10 regular tea bags in a gallon jug, then sit jug outside in direct Sun light for 4 to 5 hours. Still too weak by my standards? Does anyone know of a brand of tea that makes strong, restaurant style tea? Thanks!
Making 'Sun Tea' without sun:
My grandmother used to make tea this way many years ago.
Fill a glass gallon jar with tap water that has been allowed to run a few minutes. Add 6 individual serving tea bags (that would translate to two large size tea bags in this day and age).
Place lid on container.
Leave on counter overnight.
Remove tea bags in the morning and refrigerate if desired.
This is how to make southern tea that us southerners enjoy:
In small saucepan, fill with water and three family size tea bags (Tetley is the best for Iced Tea). Bring to a boil, turn heat to low and simmer for ten minutes. Meanwhile, using an empty (of course) gallon milk container, fill 1/4 of the way with hot tap water, using a funnel, add 1 cup of sugar. Place cap on and shake to dissolve sugar. After the tea has brewed for 10 minutes, pour (through funnel) the hot tea into gallon container, fill the rest of the way with cold tap water. Shake and place in frig. for 2 hours, or until cold. YUM!!
You don't have to set a jar of water with tea bags outside. Put it near a window that gets the morning sun. It will be a wonderful brew with two or three tea bags.
