Use Soda Can Box To Organize Bags

Organize your plastic bags. Take an empty soda fridge pack, the ones that hold 12 cans of soda, and cover it with wrapping paper, fabric, wallpaper or any design you want to match your decor. Stuff the plastic bags into the opening where the soda cans come out. It will fit nicely into your pantry or cupboard or even on the counter. It will keep all those plastic bags from overrunning your kitchen.

Potato Bead Necklace

This necklace is made (believe it or not) in part with potatoes! The grayer beads that you see are the potatoes, the other beads, I bought mostly in a craft store. You just take a potato and cut it up into 1/2 inch pieces. Thread them on the round toothpicks and let dry.

Every day, turn them to keep them from sticking to the toothpick. If you happen to forget, you can wet them and get them off that way and then let re-dry. Then when they are dry, take them off the toothpick and thread them on elastic thread. I just made a knot on mine, did not even use a clasp, although you could. Since the string is elastic, it will go over your head. You may also paint them and add other beads. Fun thing to do!

Weed The Cat

Weed is about 4 years old. She was abandoned at a truck stop in Weed, CA when about 3 months old. Hubby, not wanting another cat, brought her home. Ha ha!

She likes to play in the water, be it the toilet, water hose or swimming pool. She comes to me and pats and meows when wants outside.

Book Review: An Amazing Alphabetic Anthology by Melanie Rose Johnson
By Susan Sanders-Kinzel

"Learned librarians love large lunatic lizards."

I discovered this book while visiting my sister's coffee house in Chewelah, Washington. I bought a copy for my grandchildren, but thought the reader's of ThriftyFun might be interested in it as well. The book was written by a local author, Melanie Rose Johnson, and illustrated by her mother, Toni McLarren Johnson.

An Amazing Alphabetic Anthology explores each letter of the alphabet with long words and beautiful illustrations. Somehow, Melanie was able to come up with complete sentences using only words starting with each letter of the alphabet. Each page includes a short glossary of the more difficult words so your child can find out what each word means. The book will challenge and delight young readers. They may end up knowing a few words that even you don't know.

Melanie wrote this book while she was recovering from a long illness. All the illustrations were performed by her mother. Initially, they created 500 books using color copies and hand binding. These copies sold fast. Now the book is available through a print-on-demand publisher so we can all enjoy it. Melanie was home schooled and continues writing. She has written a young adult fiction novel (not yet published) and is currently working on a novel.

Priced at $29.95 (U.S. shipping included) from Flowery Trail CoffeeHouse, it is well worth the money and you will be helping out a budding author and her artist mother.

Step By Step 12 Days Of Christmas Gifts

I start off by making my cards. They are 3 1/2 inches tall by 3 inches wide. I use the poem from the 12 Days of Christmas song that I print on the inside. On the outside of the card, I have a sizzix die cut machine and I use different die cuts to decorate the outside. I use themed paper and bags. T

his year I am using different color snowflake themed wrapping paper and bags. My cards will match the colors: Day 1 - pink, Day 2 - purple, Day 3 - blue, Day 4 - yellow. Day 5 - red, Day 6 - green, and then start over. . . Day 7 - pink, etc. I will use different sizes, shapes, and colors of snowflakes. I make clear plastic envelopes to keep the cards in. When I receive something special, I like to scrapbook it, laminate it, or make clear cards to keep items such as these cards in. It's the little touches that mean so much!

I have number cookie cutters. I bake numbers 1-12, decorate them cute, and make enough cookies for each member in the family. If it's Day 1, and there are 5 members in the family, I bake #1 cookie shape, and include 5 cookies on a plate with the following days:

  • Day 1: I buy an edible pear with an artificial tree with a bird clipped on it, or, a pear ornament hanging in an artificial tree with a bird clipped to the tree, #1 cookies, and card.
  • Day 2: A box of turtle chocolates and a bag of dove chocolates, #2 cookies, and card.
  • Day 3: A loaf of french bread, or 3 cornish game hens, #3 cookies, and card.
  • Day 4: A play cell phone, or, 4 party blow horns, or, 4 whistles, #4 cookies, and card.
  • Day 5: 5 glazed donuts,or, 5 gold bracelets, or, 5 gold rings found in the wedding section, and #5 cookies, and card.
  • Day 6: Carton of 6 eggs, #6 cookies, and card.
  • Day 7: 7 plastic swans, found in the baby shower section glued to a round styrofoam base with blue cellophane to make it look like water, #7 cookies, and card.
  • Day 8: A gallon of milk or eggnog with a whole plate full of #8 cookies, and card.
  • Day 9: I use 9 disco ball ornaments, or, 9 paper doll chain, I have also used 9 pair of croched boot ornaments, #9 cookies, and card.
  • Day 10: 10 plastic frogs attached to a rectangle styrofoam block standing in a long row with green cellophane to make it look "swampy", and included 10 paper crowns, or, Lord of the Rings DVD, #10 cookies, and card.
  • Day 11: Use a pipe from the snowman kit, 10 shiny pipecleaners, cheap music recorders from Wal-mart, #1 cookies, doubled, and card.
  • Day 12: A play drum,or, use a paper mache box, make it look like a drum by using leather cording and foam for the top and on the inside of the box, add a hot cocoa mix and use it as a "drum" of cocoa, #1 and #2 cookies, and card.
At the end of the 12 days, we always leave them this poem:

Choosing you this holiday year,
Has brought US a ton of holiday cheer!

We hope ya'll had a blast,
This Christmas season has gone by so fast!

So as the next Christmas season roles around,
We hope that a family you choose will be found,

To receive this tradition of love and cheer,
To be passed on year after year!

Make a Photocopy of Your Keys to Save Money Later

To save you money and time, simply make a copy of all your key on a copy machine, black and white and file it in your documents.

In case of losing the keys, just bring the key copies that you made on the page to your nearest locksmith and he will know, in most cases, how to obtain a new key for you in minimum cost, without having him to come to your home (so you don't need to pay any service call or rekey and or changing your locks ;).

Henna for Healthy Home Hair Coloring

Henna as a natural alternative to harsh chemical dyes is making a comeback. And more and more of us are having troubles with allergic reactions to what we use to color our hair. Go to the "Henna Page" on the net - or email info AT mehandi.com for a FREE CD/ebook all about the history and use of henna, with how to's.

A place for information about henna from a slightly different slant is found at:

Also how to's and mixtures.

I am doing a test strand of hair from my hairbrush, as advised and am going to take the big step to actually PUTTING it on my hair. Not the flaming red, did you know Lucille Ball used henna on her hair?, but a golden blonde. But if flaming red is what you desire (and it IS back in style), henna is a great way to go.

You also can find henna patterns (a good alternative to tattooing and a lot less permanent) at the http://mehandi.com/ website.

Save On Oil Changes For High End Cars

We know a lady with a high end car. She's asked us for suggestions on what to do for cheaper oil changes, as her dealership charges $200.00 for hers. If you're in this predicament, find a reputable repair shop, that you trust or talk to your neighbors and friends, see who they suggest.

Go to an Auto Parts store, for your auto's filters. At least the first time, as the filters might not be a stocking item, they might have to be ordered, for such as Mercedes, BMW, Jaguar. Some filters might be a dealer item, only. Meaning the manufacturer might not have released filter parts number to the auto parts stores, yet.

Coffee Spoons

Ingredients

  • chocolate chips
  • mini marshmallows
  • multi-colored sprinkles
  • plastic spoons

Directions

Melt the chips in the microwave. Pour some into the bowl of a spoon. Press some marshmallows into the chocolate. Add a dash of sprinkles. Let sit overnight in a cool place. These are easier to make one at a time so the chocolate won't harden before you can press the marshmallows in.

Variation: use white chocolate, crushed candy canes, and chocolate sprinkles.

This is a good way to use up leftover bits of this and that. Put several in a plastic bag and tie with a pretty ribbon. Makes a nice little gift by itself or with a coffee mug.

Source: This recipe is my own. I came up with it one night when I needed some little Christmas gifts and had nothing but little bits left in my kitchen.

Dealing with Symptoms of Sjogren's Syndrome

Does anyone have any new advice on dry mouth and very chapped lips. I have Sjogren's syndrome and I can deal with the dry mouth. However the last few months the corners of my mouth gather this white stuff, and it is very embarrassing when talking to people. I don't have any cracks or sores or blisters, just the white stuff and it is ugly. Balms don't work and when I put lipstick on it is even worse. It gets worse when I talk continuously (i.e. in a business meeting or presentation). What can I do?

Homemade Dry Soup Mix

Is there such a thing as a home made dry soup mix that a mother can prepare to send to college with boys who don't want to bother to cook good meals? How to Locate Pet Urine Stain

Dog urinated on carpet and it evidently wasn't discovered. How to get the smell out? Not worried about the carpet itself as it is old. Any special carpet cleaning machines?

We've been using the spray successfully (Simple Solution Stain and Odor Remover), but am betting this incident soaked into the carpet pad. And lastly, how do I locate the spot? It's somewhere near the hallway - and short of getting down on the floor and sniffing (which I don't want to do) - I'd rather do something else. Do those black lights work? Where to buy?

Help!

What Color and Type of Carpet is Best With Housecats

In the near future we hope to replace our carpet with something new. However, we have 5 housecats who are extremely rough on our walls and carpets to start with. We have an ancient old shag carpet on the floor that is so gross. Have heard that Berber carpet is probably the best if I am deadset on getting carpet and was wondering if any of you guys have experience in this out there?? Also the cats are mostly white, but have two black kitties. I know my burgundy chair shows the cat hairs BAD, am wondering what color would be the best (I already know brown doesn't work so hot either, shows the hairs bad). Need advice please help!
