Everyone in my immediate family and several close friends know that within a day or two after Christmas, I'll hit the local bookstores (Borders, Barnes and Noble) and get calendars at 1/2 price, and give them as their "after Christmas/Hanukkah gifts". I spend as much as $100, but get $200 in calendars. I've been doing this for at least five years now. Each person gets what they like and I save a lot of money buying them after Christmas instead of before. Everyone feels pretty special being part of my calendar tradition and I really enjoy doing it.
Better yet, go into an insurance office. The agents always have promotional items available from calendars to envelope openers to pens etc. all for free!
