I drive a 2005 Toyota Prius and average well above 50 MPG. I combine all my errands, stop accelerating as soon as I see a red light coming up, coast whenever possible, slow start from stops, do not use the radio, AC, or heat unless really necessary. (battery figures into my mileage as well). It's a game for me, a challenge. I do all of this without irritating other commuters, so I must pick my travel times and routes carefully!
