Crust:
  • 1 cup sifted flour
  • 1/2 cup sour cream (may be light)
  • 1/2 stick butter or margarine
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
Topping:
  • about 2 lb. plums
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon

Directions

Cream butter and sugar together. Add egg and beat together. Add sour cream. Mix and sift together flour and baking powder; gradually add to creamed mixture. Pat dough into a pan, approximately 8 inches square. Cut open plums; remove pits and split open. Place on dough, skin side uppermost. Mix sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle over plums. Bake at 350 degrees F for approximately 1 hour until crust is nicely browned and plums are cooked through.

Wow, there are more people like me out there. These were always my favorites growing up. I loved September, when the plums are at their best. My grammy would make these. I've made them a few times, and also the plum noodle casseroles(often). This recipe is cheating, but the taste is there.

FYI, canned plums work very well when you can't get the right ones.

Thank you for posting this. This sounds like a recipe I made many years ago. I accidentally threw away the recipe. It was delicious and a great way to use up any extra plums. The only ingredient I remember was to use what I call Italian plums or the small purple ones. Does it matter what type of plums to use? Thank you.
