How many of us have received a beautiful sweater that did not fit or was not our style, or received a gift that just did not fit us or our homes? Before you put that brand new item in your next garage sale why not put it in your gift closet. As long as you don't give it back to the person who gave it to you, you will be getting a second life out of something you would just get rid of anyway. Besides, you know that Aunt Martha bought that sweater with love for you and that is all that matters right? You know her intent. But your good friend will love and cherish the sweater and it is just her size.

Just keep track of who gave it to you so you won't give the gift back to the person that gave it to you in the first place. Especially with things like unused wedding gifts. We gave some things (that were doubles or triples of the same item) to friends that were getting married or having bridal showers. Same thing as spending the money in actual cash on the same item at the store. And when you are just married and are young the budget doesn't usually allow for a lot of extra spending.
