How do I remove suntan lotion from a white cotton gauze beach coverup?

I've had the same problem with stains from spray suntan lotions. Not the sunless kind but the regular kind, I use it on my kids a lot and it ruins anything white or light. Oxyclean helps but many soakings are required and bleach makes it much worse. I have had to throw some shirts away.
I'm going to try vinegar and water which was suggested on another site.

Sprays are easiest with kids but I've had to stop using it.
Does anyone know what ingredient is causing the problem?

No need to respond. I used a distilled vinegar and water mixer and soaked the stain away.

Your lack of responses was most interestering....dur!
