  • 4 cooking apples, peeled and cored
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 2 Tbsp. raisins
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp. water

Bring sides of pastry piece up to center of apple; press edges to seal. Garnish with pastry leaf. Place in ungreased 9 inch square baking pan. In small bowl, beat together egg and 1 tsp. water; brush over dumplings. Bake at 400 for 15 minutes. Combine sauce ingredients in small saucepan. Bring to a boil; continue boiling for 2 minutes. Pour over partially baked dumplings; bake for an additional 25-30 minutes or until crust is deep golden brown. Spoon sauce over dumplings several times during baking. Serve warm or cool. Makes four dumplings.

I am not quite clear where you put the butter. Normally I would of put the butter on the apples. Also the cinnamon and nutmeg. This really sounds easy and good. How many apples would you say to make a 9x13 cake pan.
