If, like me, you are tired of your bottle of canola oil dripping down the sides of the bottle every time you pour out of it, just cut the ribbed cuff off of one of your husband's old stocking and slide it over the bottle. It will catch all the drips and keep your cupboard shelf clean. When it gets soiled, either launder it or replace it. Source: My own idea. Necessity is the mother of invention! After 3 months of severe back pain I found the one thing that has removed nearly all of my pain, swimming. Find yourself a two week pass for your local gym. Try it to see if it will help you before you spend the money to join a gym. These two week passes are usually sent in the mail. First ask your doctor and start out slowly. Don't kick your feet very hard in the beginning. If they have a hot tub, it helps to warm up in it. I went from not being able to walk, sit or drive a clutch three weeks ago (because of a bulging disc and sciatica), to being nearly pain free after swimming nearly every day. WOW! Rate It: Safety Pin to Mark Front When Sewing Clothing When I am sewing for my granddaughter I always put a small safety pin on the front garment piece when I remove the pattern pieces. This is a big help on those days when I have to stop and come back to it. Little kid garments look pretty much the same front and back, so this helps me to get her sun dresses assembled properly without a lot of stress. Rate It: Have Toilet Necessities Accessible for Guests As a courtesy to guests who may need to make use of your bathroom facilities, store extra toilet paper, deodorizing spray, a toilet plunger, a roll of paper towels and bowl brush in an easily accessible place. Rate It: The supplies you will need to make an extension cord keeper are: a small plastic pail, a 2 inch paint roller handle, and an extension cord. Measure on bucket high enough for the handle to turn without scraping the floor. Fit the ends into the holes you may need to remove the plastic handle, insert, then reattach to outside). Then make two more holes on opposite sides of the bucket to poke cord through near bottom. Weave a short section of cord through tines of the paint roller to secure. Then place the male plug end through one of the holes. The female end goes out the other hole. When used, plug into power source, pull other end out for use (the roller will spin releasing cord). When done use handle to crank the cord back up like turning an old-fashioned ice cream maker, unplug and carry away to next job. No tangles and no kinks. Rate It: Summer is almost here and so is cat shedding time. This is a tip to keep the animal hair cleaned up. Take a piece of terry cloth (I use old towels cut up) wet a good size piece, and wring it out. Wrap it around four fingers and rub it in a circular motion. Lift up after about four motions, and you will be amazed at the cat hair you have picked up. Take the hair off the rag, and do it again and again. This works on couches cloth chair, seats, bedspreads, and in the car, anywhere! By letageraldine from Tucson Az Post Feedback: http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf63876140.tip.html

Rate It: Assign Colored Nylon Scrubbies for Bathtime Save on laundry and hand soap! Assign a different colored nylon scrubbie to each member of your household. No more wash clothes to launder! A scrubbie creates a ridiculous amount of suds thereby reducing the amount of soap used. Just try it. It really makes a big difference. Also, no mildewy smell as you would get from a wet cloth during humid weather. Post Feedback: http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf14394772.tip.html

Rate It: I was going to get rid of the nursery monitor I had used for my grandchildren, but just hadn't gotten around to doing so. My mother-in-law had surgery and had to stay with us for a while when she got out of the hospital. Our bedroom is on the opposite of the house from our guestroom where she was staying. I was a bit concerned about her needing us during the night and not being able to hear her calls for assistance. Then I remember the nursery monitors I still had not gotten rid of. It is said that in our senior years we go into our second childhood. I pulled them out and used them to keep an open ear for my elderly mother-in-law. I slept comfortable and so did she. Now THAT is re-cycling! By Sandy from Elon, NC Post Feedback: http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf66948700.tip.html

Rate It: Using Faux Stainless Paint for a Range Hood Over the past two years we have been gradually replacing old appliances in our kitchen. All of them have been replaced except for the range hood. We want to have the cabinets redesigned to hold a microwave and it is going to be expensive. The beige rusting range hood was looking rough and I just could not take it anymore. I did research to see what other people had done and decided to give it a whirl. I bought a 4 oz. can of Rustoleum Silver Metallic paint and two sponge brushes. I really only needed 1 - 2 oz. to do this project. Lightly sand the range hood. This will not take more than 3 minutes. Clean it with your regular household cleaner, rinse and make sure it is dry. Tape off everything and use drop cloths! Since my hood was beige I painted a base coat of gray latex paint that I had already, but later realized I could have easily skipped this step. Allow the paint to dry. Follow the cans directions and paint a coat of metallic paint on using long straight strokes. Let dry for 30 minutes and then use the same brush without adding paint to it to make light X's all over the range hood. This will help get rid of brush marks that make it look very DIY. The X's actually make it look more realistic. After drying anywhere from a few hours to overnight, apply a top clear coat to make it shine like stainless steel. Enjoy. Rate It: Make a Drink from Fruit and Veggie Peels I have always hated the idea of throwing out food. I like the idea of getting "something for nothing". When I peel vegetables (except potatoes), I boil the skins for a free (and healthy drink). I boil fruit peelings separate then vegetable peelings. Some of the time, I add a tea bag with the fruit peelings. I never add sugar. Post Feedback: http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf64689487.tip.html

White Streaks on Bathroom Mirror I have a friend that has a huge mirror above her bathroom sinks. There are streaks of some sort on this mirror that will not be cleaned off. She said she has tried everything, but nothing will remove these streaks. What could this be from and how might they be removed? These streaks are white and very noticeable. They start at the top of the mirror and run down in streaks in different places. They can be wiped off, but come back just like some kind of a haze. Thanks.
