Inexpensive Gazing Ball Craft
Inexpensive Gazing Ball Craft
Have you ever wanted your own gazing ball to put in your yard? Well here's a much less expensive version.

Materials

  • fish bowl
  • 5 or 6 inch clay pot
  • spray paint any color you want
  • acrylic paint
  • clay saucer big enough to put on top of fish bowl as in picture
  • small clay pot like on top of saucer in picture
  • sealer

Directions

Spray paint fish bowl and let dry. Paint the clay saucer and pots with acrylic paint, let dry, you can use any color you want. Seal really well as it is going to be outside. Assemble it as it looks in picture and enjoy.

Another Cheap Ideal is to get the large plastic Christmas ornaments that are made to hang outside and are the same size as gazing balls. They come in many colors and designs and look like real gazing balls.

My mother in law has a bowling ball garden. She has a rock garden with 7 or 8 bowling balls placed in different ways. You can go out and move them or stack them in whatever way you feel like. I'll try to get a photo when I visit her this spring.

My sister did it with my moms bowling ball. It was blue swirl design, looked nice. Bowling balls can be found cheap at yard sales.
The story about gazing balls: They are supposed to be mirrored(you can get paint at hardware store) to keep evil spirits away from your home.

I wonder, could you paint an old bowling ball to do this?
