Display Wedding Cards in a Photo Collage Frame

After getting married 08-08-08, I had all of our wedding cards in a box until I decided whether or not to scrapbook them. I had a great idea, because some of the cards had such cute fronts, I wanted to somehow display them. I got a great deal on a nice photo collage frame and used the cards instead of pictures! It turned out adorable and what a great keepsake!

Garden: Growing Peas for Winter

We have a large family and so always put in a large garden and can lots of food for winter months. We have potatoes, onions and peas and kale in so far. Hoping it stays mild and we can soon plant more. Everyone in the family helps with garden from oldest to youngest. Here the peas are popping ground. What a welcome sight.

Simon (Ragdoll Mix)

Simon is a 3 year old Ragdoll mix. This is our cat Simon that we saved from being put to sleep at the animal shelter. He was only a tiny little fluff ball then and he grew up into a big fluffy boy.

Simon is a funny cat, he winks at us all the time. It's really funny when he does this. It makes us all laugh. Simon loves to play with catnip toys and loves cat treats!

Check Freecycle Before You Buy

This may seem like a "no-brainer" tip but I can't stress this enough! Anytime you need something LOOK ON Craigslist or Freecycle.

My boyfriend and I bought a house in Florida for almost half of what the previous owner paid (Thanks to our economy, unfortunately.) We both came from a rental property so we needed pretty much everything. He wanted a hot tub and started to purchase one retail but he checked Craigslist and found one for 1/4 of the price!

We have also bought all our stainless steel kitchen appliances for cheap off Craigslist. We found a roommate to help with the bills and I even bought Nutrisystem products for cheap off C.L. since I wanted to try it!

My point is that you need to break yourself of the "buying from store" frame of mind. I was a spend thrift until recently. Now I'm hooked on buying cheap.

Pre-Filled Easter Baskets Might Not Be Worth It

This is kind of a "buyer beware" concerning those pre-packed Easter Baskets the stores sell in the spring. My daughter bought a superhero one for my grandson this year. It was filled with small inexpensive toys, a few other odds and ends, and a box of cookies. However when the basket was unwrapped and she opened the box of cookies, it was empty. Not that the cookies are a really big deal, but it appears that the buyer may not be getting all they think they are paying for. I doubt she will purchase one again.

Bookshelves With Pizazz

To better showcase your knick-knacks, treasured keepsakes, and collectibles, paint the inside of bookcases, armories, etc. with a color which complements your collection. According to your own taste, use a vibrant color to add visual interest or choose a deeper shade of the paint in the room where it sits. Black is always good for a dramatic impact. The background draws attention to your books, collectibles, etc. Paint only the back and side walls, not the shelves. Wallpaper will also do the same thing.

Knit an Afghan in 7 Minutes a Day

Most people don't have the time, they think, to knit an afghan but I am making the "Anyone Can Knit an Afghan in 7 Minutes a Day." It's easy and it's fun.

I used knitting worsted weight yarn and a size 9 circular knitting needle. I cast on about 250 stitches and here's the fun part. If you knit only one row per day the afghan is completed in 365 days because that's 365 rows. Almost anyone can knit one row a day.

I knit the first 10 rows or so in seed stitch and kept 10 stitches on each side in seed stitch just to keep the afghan from curling. Of course, you can work more than one row a day and the afghan will be longer or you can stop when it's the size you want. It's a great way to use up odds and ends of left over yarn.

Pick Up Litter for Earth Day

For Earth Day and any day, I would suggest picking up litter. Even if it is just in your yard, every little bit of litter picked up makes a difference.

Picking up litter is great exercise that produces quick results.

Warning: Never Combine Ammonia and Bleach

When washing floors, or any really soiled surface, don't think of combining ammonia and bleach. Even diluted in water, the fumes from this combination are very toxic. It can cause swelling of eyes, burns in nasal passages, and worse.

Repair Burns on Carpet

To repair cigarette burns or sparks from fireplace on carpet, first take small scissors and delicately cut away any seared, hard fibers that may be sticking up above the level of the carpet. Buy 3 shades of the cheapest acrylic paint (49 cents ea) close to the carpet color or colors. Use a q-tip to dab on tiny amounts of paint, allowing 15 minutes drying time between applications, until spot is camouflaged. No one will notice the burn!

Product Review: Cover Tox Ten

Product: Physicians Formula: Cover Tox Ten Wrinkle Therapy Face Powder

Cost: $7.00 appx.

This product claims to have proven visible wrinkle reduction in 10 minutes with over 50% visible Wrinkle reduction; in 10 hours up to 90% and in 10 days up to 90% of visible smoother skin (with the use of their CoverTox 10 foundation).

It shows three pictures of before and afters on the box and I admit, I was skeptical. I haven't used face powder in years because it settles in my pores and wrinkles. The before and afters show a woman whose under eye circles look practically non existent, but I don't know if she used the powder under her eyes; I haven't tried that.

What I did try was using the powder only, over my concealer on the inner portion of my eye close to the nose. Great results; it blends and doesn't crease. I also tried it without using it over concealer, just on my bare skin and had great results too. It really does help hid this hard to cover area. I also used it over my entire eye lid from lash to eyebrows as a primer. Great coverage and I think it helped my eye shadow to stay on longer and the colors to stay true.

Unbelievably, it works. It does not settle into lines, in fact my nose to mouth and forehead really did show less lines. My two 'exclamation points' not that much, but I admit I haven't tried it for 10 days running yet. I also found that although the first ingredient is 'talc' which usually is a dead giveaway to clogged pores, this product doesn't clog my pores. It comes in a compact with a mirror. It even comes with a flat blush brush that is stored in the middle of the compact. When I used it on my eyes, though, I used an eye shadow brush.

It gives great cover and I have put as many as 2-3 coats of powder on my face; it doesn't cake or give that obvious look that you're using face powder that you get when you use face powder. I used it on my bare skin, not over foundation. It really does work, brightens and makes my skin more even colored since I have blotchy, uneven skin. I didn't look like I had a mask on and it's not complete coverage; it's not that kind of pancake powder, it looked natural.

The color I tried was No. 2737 Translucent Medium. I'm 52 and of Italian American descent and have a golden undertone to my skin. It matched my skin perfectly. The company also makes foundation which I haven't tried yet. The up to 90% visibly smoother skin claims to work in conjunction with the foundation.

I can't remember exactly how much it was though, but it wasn't a lot. I try not to spent a lot of money on cosmetics; I'd rather do trial and error on drugstore brands that go right out and buy department store brands. Besides, I'm a cosmetics junkie and I have to be extra careful. I bought it at Walgreens drugstore, but I've seen it at Target, Walmart, CVS, etc., those kinds of stores. Walgreen's has a website: www.walgreens.com and the other companies do too. So does www.drugstore.com. You can try it for 30 days and if you don't like it, Walgreens will refund your money with the receipt.

I was amazed at how my skin looked. Did I look 20 with flawless skin? No. Did it help with sagging? No. But I tell you, I looked a lot better with it than without it. I'm sold.

If you try it, I hope you will submit your comments and experience to ThriftyFun. I'm curious to see how other people's skin reacts to it.

Dear Webby's Joke of the Day

In California's Sonoma Valley, where vineyards cater to wine snobbery, a woman phoned the classified ad department of a newspaper. She offered for sale what sounded like "well-aged Caumeneur."

The ad-taker was unfamiliar with that particular, wine, but was used to the infusion of French words into the local vocabulary.

"Could you please spell that?" she asked.

"You know," said the woman impatiently, "C-o-w M-a-n-u-r-e."

Garnishing Disability for Child Support

My daughter lost her job and is having a very hard time finding one. She and her little one are now in danger of being evicted from their low income apartment because she doesn't have money for this months rent. Her child's father refuses to pay any child support and he won't get a job because he lives at his father's house for free. He lives off his new wife's disability check.

Does his daughter have a right to any of his wife's ($1500) disability check? I believe her check comes from Social Security. He will never get a job (so she can garnish) and doesn't have a drivers license to revoke. He would rather go to jail than work! My daughter is a wonderful mother but is having a hard time finding a new job and any child support would help!

911 Access with Cable TV Phone Service During Power Outages

I'm looking into switching phone service for a relative who is a senior citizen. Currently he has phone service through his local telephone company, but we are looking into switching to phone service through the local cable television company. My concern is his 911 access in the event of a power outage and/or if the cable service goes out temporarily.

He has some health problems, and I want him to be able to dial 911 any time he may need to without a problem. Also, I know 911 operators can locate your address with regular phone company service, but I have heard that is not true with cable company phone service. If he were incapacitated and could not respond with an address to a 911 operator, can his location be identified with phone service through a cable company? Thanks for all replies.
