I am sure this recipe has been modified from the original, but it's not Christmas at our home without these cookies.
CHERRY WINKS 3/4 cup crisco 1 cup sugar 2 eggs 2 Tbsp milk 1 tsp vanilla 2-1/4 cups pre-sifted flour 1 tsp baking powder 1/4 tsp baking soda 1 cup chopped nuts 1 cup chopped dates 1 cup raisins or currants 1/3 cup chopped cherries, plus more 2 tsp maraschino cherry juice 2-1/2 cups crushed corn flakes
Cream shortening and sugar. Blend in eggs, milk, vanilla, and dry ingredients. Add dates, nuts, raisins, cherries; mix well. Drop dough by spoonfuls into flakes. Top with 1/4 cherry (pushed in). Bake on greased sheet for 12-15 minutes at 375. [The cookies should not brown, or they will be very dry.] Makes about 5 dozen cookies.
