Instead of banging cushions together outside, just toss in dryer one at a time on low setting for about 5 minutes. All the dust from cushions and pillows will go into the lint filter and will save your arms from doing all that work. I also do this to stuffed animals, just be sure it is on air fluff and not long, otherwise some fur on stuffed animals will singe.

when you put them into the drier, you might also want to throw in a clean tennis ball. This will bang them around more. Also works great when airing out or drying pillows in your dryer!

The theory is great and the results may LOOK fine, however, as a vacuum demonstrator in homes for a temp. job, I learned that heat does NOT KILL dust
mites. Only alcohol and disposal of the waxy creatures, en masse, will. So, you might
want to wipe out your dryer tub and filter basket after each time you do this or risk depositing a fresh
colony of hungry dust mites into your clothes and linens. They are so microscopic that a whole CIYY of them can live on the head of a straightpin and they cause terrible itchy skin/scalp, pimples, and
eczema and even psoriasis. If anyone itches, use alcohol on the areas of the body. clean your upholstery with a strong vacuum /attachment ,then
spray until wet with alcohol, if water resistant or color
safe (test in inconspicuous place first), then steam
and extract water quickly. God bless you. : )
