I wanted to paint underneath my riding mowers deck and I ditched that idea because theres to much grass and there's no way I could get it 100% squeaky clean to paint it. Is there any kind of cleaning solution get everything off of there and down to the bare metal?

Hate to say it but the same thing happened to me. I have a riding Craftsman with a Briggs & Stratton engine that I just love - we've had this mower for 13 years! Today my foreign exchange student was putting gas in the mower and she accidentally put it where the oil goes. She realized her mistake and came and told me right away. We drained the oil and refilled it. It looked funny coming out - very fluid compared to what oil usually looks like. Once the new oil was in, we started the mower right up. At first it sounded like it might make a little backfire, but it really didn't. We turned it off, added a little more oil, and everything seems fine. Whatever you do, don't start your mower until you drain and refill the oil with the right stuff! Our story has a happy ending, but I don't know how much, if any, damage was done to the engine because of this incident. I hope it was only negligible!

Our mowers get cleaned after use with a scraper to lift stuck on grass and the leaf blower after that. For our rider mower, it is put on ramps and cleaned easier this way allowing more available space to see under.

I use the hose to clean my power mower almost every week, I remove the grass catcher and start the motor then I use a jet spray nozzle to clean the bottom of my mower. I also spray the top of my mower after it cools down a bit. Ihave done this for years and have never ruined my mower.

Purchased a new BLACK riding mower. After mowing small yard- mower looked awful. Had a "California Car Duster" in utility room. It is now in mower shed and takes about three minutes to go over mower and looks showroom new again. Also use a childs "play broom" to sweep deck before riding into shed.

It is always a chore clean under the lawn mower deck. I found the best way is to find an old window screen, lay the lawn mower on its side, get the garden hose or pressure washer and let her have it. Pressure washer works the best.

All the dead grass falls on the screen, the water goes thru so when you are done all you have to do is remove the grass and dispose. It makes good mulch for plants.

Editor's Note: I have been informed that it is not good to wash your mower with water, even the underside. It's much better to use a broom or air blower to clean underneath a mower.
