My husband and I make an easy barbecue sauce (a thin brush-on type, not the thick kind) that is great for summer cookouts. It works good on chicken and pork (esp. ribs!), and you can even use it on steaks. Use the cheapest brands for all the ingredients. Believe me, it tastes better than the store-bought BBQ sauces! Here's how to make it:
In a stainless steel pot, combine:
Mix and cook all the ingredients about an hr. over low heat. BBQ sauce will be thin, not thick, and can be brushed over grilling meats. Store in refrigerator in a container. Should last at least a month.
OR you can parboil ribs, chicken, etc. IN the sauce, then use the remainder to brush on the cooking meat. However, if you par-cook any meat in the sauce, use it all up immediately on whatever you are cooking . . . once it is "contaminated" by the meat, do not save it.
Enjoy!

Italian Pasta And Bean Soup Mix
Place beans into a 3 1/2 cup jar (layer or mix together) with a tight-fitting lid.
Place pasta in a ziplock baggie and place on top of the beans.
Mix remaining ingredients in a small bowl and place in a small ziplock baggie.
Include the following recipe:
Remove pasta and seasoning packets. Rinse beans. Cover with water and soak overnight. Rinse and place in a 5-quart Dutch oven with 8 cups water, 1 can (28-ounces) crushed tomatoes, seasoning packet and 1 cup each of coarsely chopped carrot, celery and onion. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to low, cover and simmer for 2 hours or until beans are tender-firm. Uncover, increase heat to medium-low and boil gently for 35 minutes, stirring until soup has thickened slightly. Stir in pasta, increase heat to medium and cook 10 minutes longer or until pasta is tender.

Check the cereal aisle for more flavor ideas. The possibilities are endless!
Put 1/2 cup oats in a blender and whirl at high speed until powdery; reserve in a small bowl and repeat procedure with an additional 1/2 cup oats. If you're using a food processor, powder the 1 cup of oats in one motion. Into each sandwich bag put 1/4 cup un-powdered oats, 2 tablespoons powdered oats, and a scant 1/4 teaspoon salt. Store in a box or airtight container.
To serve: Empty packet into a bowl. Add 3/4 cup boiling water; stir and let stand for 2 minutes. For thicker oatmeal, use less water; for thinner, use more water. (I microwave for 1 1/2 - 2 1/2 minutes or until done on high)
Apple-Cinnamon Oatmeal: To each packet add 1 Tbsp. sugar, 1/4 tsp. cinnamon, and 2 Tbsp. chopped dried apples.
Cinnamon-Spice Oatmeal: To each packet add 1 Tbsp. sugar, 1/4 tsp. cinnamon, and a scant 1/8 tsp. nutmeg.
Fruit and Cream: To each packet add 1 Tbsp. dry milk and 2 Tbsp. dried fruit or fresh fruit after cooking or jam.
Oatmeal with Raisins and Brown Sugar: To each packet add 1 Tbsp. packed brown sugar and 1 Tbsp. raisins.
Sweetened Oatmeal: To each packet add 1 Tbsp. sugar
Wheat Germ Oatmeal: To each packet add 2 Tbsp. any kind of wheat germ

Heat water and salt to boiling. Add broke up spaghetti. Cook slowly until spaghetti is tender. In a gravy shaker, mix milk and flour and add to spaghetti. Heat until boiling, then add Velveeta cheese until nice and cheesy. In another skillet, fry hamburger with onions, salt and pepper. Add spaghetti sauce and brown sugar. Heat until bubbly. Serve as gravy on the spaghetti. A pan of fresh warm garlic bread sticks are a great complement with this meal.

In a large skillet over medium heat cook beef, onion, green pepper, and garlic until meat is brown and vegetables are tender. Drain fat. Add tomato juice, kidney beans, chili powder, oregano, salt and rice; cover and simmer about 25 minutes or until tender. Stir in corn and olives; cover and cook 5 more minutes. Sprinkle with cheese; cover and cook only until cheese melts, about 5 minutes. The best!
